Taxi fare from Bangalore to places out of Bangalore
I am posting the taxi fare from a taxi service that I have used. This is about a month old, so the fares would not have changed much by now. These are the charges for travelling to places outside of Bangalore and not for internal commute within Bangalore.
Taxi used: Tata Indica Diesel, Small car, hatchback. Rates will be higher for a bigger car and also for a petrol car. Charges: -------- 1. Non-AC: Rs.5.50 per KM i.e 5 rupees 50 paise per kilometer 2. AC: Rs.6.50 per KM 3. Minimum per day charge would be for 250KM. This also depends on the number of days you hire a taxi and maybe this can be negotiated although I did not; thought of it only when writing this. 4. Driver bata (charges/fee) is Rs.125 per day. 5. Permit charges extra. Permit charges would be the tax that the taxi has to pay to enter another state. For example, Bangalore is in Karnataka and Ooty is in Tamilnadu. So to get to Ooty you will have to pay an entry tax into Tamilnadu. It varies from state to state. For Tamilnadu it's on the lesser side, around Rs.100 I think but I am not sure. Please find out about this before-hand as the taxi driver can make some money here. For some states it's expensive. Private cars are not charged entry tax. 6. Parking charges are extra and varies from Rs.5 per hour to Rs.50 per hour (in posh shopping malls). This has to be paid to the parking attendant at the parking lot. 7. Driver also expects a tip at the end of the trip. They might ask for Rs.100 per day but this is up to you and if you find the service poor you can tell him so and reduce this to a minimum. Check the condition of the taxi, newer the better. Ask for an English speaking driver. Find out rates with two or three taxi agencies. Also read this short thread by noflylist: Car hiring Tip I might have missed something, hoping that other IMers will add on to this. Cheers Prashant

The charges are prpbably for "up and down". Even if you go only one way, you have to pay the charges for the return trip (to Bangalore) as well.

Yeah, the charges are for up and down. As Manoj rightly pointed out, you will be charged for up and down travel even if you use the taxi one way.
Thanks Manoj ![]() |

Just to add to this.. if you try harder you can get slightly better price of 5/- per km for an indica car and 100/- per day charge for the driver.
