Hello, i am new here but have being doing a lot of reading - thanks for all the info so far.
I am planning my first trip to india in jan - yey - so excited!! flying to bangalore and then travelling around kerela and up to goa through karnataka. Anyway a few questions: we'll be arriving in bangalore a 5 am (indian time), I have read somewhere on here that you can't get rupees in the uk, will there be somewhere open at that time to exchange our money or will be be stuck in the airport till the exchange place opens? Is it a crazy idea to spend half a day in bagalore and then fly straight down to cochin (with air deccan?) at 2 pm and then explore bangalore just before we leave? It's just i am impatient and cannot wait to get to the coast! Next question! My boyfriend wants to get suits made in bangalore, can anyone recommend somewhere good to go? Thanks |

hi - you can't get rupees outside india on legal base, but the exchange offices at the airport are as long opened as the airport - though fare no problem, but be aware that exchange rates at the airport are normally not the best - though change only as much as you need for the first day
why are you in such a hurry - the only effect is you spent half a day at the airport (lost time) - stay one or two times in bangalore and than go relaxed to the coast |

If you are flying via Sinagapore you can buy rupees in the airport.

Thanks for the info, am afraid we're not flying via singapore. But if the exchange place will be open in the airport then we should be ok.
I'm in such a hurry cos out time is limited and am really looking forward to Cochin and the coast. Reckon we might fly straight down and then explore bangalore for a couple of days at the end of our trip. |

CASH
Take your ATM card. There are cashpoints everywhere. If you have a Nationwide account, they don't charge for the transaction. The Halifax charges £1.50 every time you withdraw cash whilst overseas. TRAVEL Why not get a car from Bangalore to Mysore and on to Ooty through Madumulai Wildlife Sanctuary? Then you can take the trip to Mettapalyam on th Nilgiri Mountain Railway and on to Cochin. If you fly, you'll miss the Nilgiris!

my experience is that airports are roughly comparable rate to any other ruppee exchange, so usually I change there. True, the bank cards work great as well

Cheers for the advice.
My plan so far is..... cochin alleppey varkala periyar wildlife sanctuary munnar gokarna hampi goa bangalore home we're there for just under 4 weeks - do you think we're planning to do to much? is there anything really good that we'll miss? With hotels and stuff - will we need to book in advance? do places get full? It's just that all the hotels on the internet seem to be mid-high prices? Sorry another random question - will be need warm clothes for munnar? Thanks for all your help ![]() |

I think that's quite a lot for just under three weeks, and with three beach destinations you're bound to get bogged down somewhere
I'd pick one beach and do it justice, I miss Goa and Gokarne if I was you and try and do justice to your other chosen destinations! Youve got a lot of travel tied in with this remember this will tire you our trust me ![]() |

Hmmmm, I am not that bothered about goa but my travel companions are....perhaps i'll have to try and convince them it's not the best place? if we don't go to gokarna and goa is it worth travelling up to hampi? from what i've read it does look absolutely amazing? ho hum - too many decsions.
sorry to be cheeky but cyberhippie - we're actually there for just under 4 weeks not 3, do you think we're still trying to do too much? - it was meant to be a relaxing holiday as well! |

Couple of good options for tailor made suits:
Check Paresh lamba on MG road (its at the begining of MG road) Lokesh Ahuja at The Leela galleria Khanate, their at multiple locations- Church street (parallel to MG road and very close to paresh Lamba) also at the Leela Galleria, and 4th blk Jaynagar P N Rao on MG Road Khanate, and P N Rao might be more economical than the first two. Also most places have fabrics for sale so you dont necessarily have to bring it with you. Enjoy Shopping! |
