| Supermarkets in Bangalore Hi there, I will be arriving in Bangalore in 1 week and exploring grocery options. I have looked on the net and found the following supermarkets in Bangalore. I want to find a good supermarket that is cheap, sells a variety of food not just indian type food and personal hygiene goods. If anyone has been to any supermarkets or has been to the one's below and can reccommend one please let me know. I am looking for cheapest, quality and wide variety. I am staying in Dollars Colany so would have to be as local as possible. These are the supermarkets I have found so far..... Foodworld Spencer's Spar Hypermarket Thanks everyone! Shareen | |

| Also Reliance Fresh, Food Zone, Food Baazar, etc... supermarkets are very easy to find. Obviously, if you are eating traditional Indian foods, your shopping bills will be lower and things will be easier to find. In most of these places, you’ll be able to find things like Spaghetti, Ramen, etc. Indians have a well developed taste for junk food and both locally made and imported (albeit expensive) junk food items are widely available. So the junk food of “back home” is easier to find than the staples. Most of these supermarkets are smaller places. They are mostly interchangeable in terms of prices. What you buy is more important than where you buy it. And for the record, the Spar in Koramungala is probably the biggest and best supermarket in town; especially for meats. This reminds me that I need to take a trip there to stock up on mutton...

| The Metro Hypermarket at Yeshwantpur is the biggest of the lot.You have to be a registered retailer to gain access. If your objective is research and marketing then they will issue you a visitor's pass. | |

| Hi there again, Thank you for your replies and just to let you know. I am from NZ and moving to Bangalore for 12 months. I was just wanting to know of a good supermarket in Bangalore for a variety of food as well as Indian. I am not referring to Junk food at all..... I am talking about foods such as noodles, pasta, tinned fruit, etc. I love indian food but don't wish to eat it all the time and want a variety. I want to know a good supermarket that is in the city that has such foods. (variety and good price) Thank you, Shareen | |

| In addition to the grocery stores already mentioned, check out the Namdharis. They run several small stores across the city although I do not know of one near Dollars Colony (what a name for a residential neighborhood!). Namdharis have their own farm near Bidadi which is not too far from Bangalore. Although their fresh produce is not "certified" organic, they are known not to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides. You will find fresh herbs such as thyme, oregano, parsley here. They also carry the usual pastas, sauces, bottled olives/capers etc and on occasions will source good Gnocchi from Italy. They also carry good local cheeses from Auroville (an international community in Pondicherry) and on my recent visit saw some Italian ricotta and fresh mozarella. The stores also have a small deli section. | |

| Hi Shareen, You are welcome. We are here to help you guys. As you would be staying in Dollars Colony, have a look at the Kwality Big Bazar on New BEL Road which is closer to your place. Of course, you must vist the other Big Bazar outlets also. The one near Lalbag is really big and you can be assured of great deals. Raghu Quote:

| Supermarkets with Western foods/groceries Hi there, I have posted about finding a supermarket and have had some great replies but I thought I would try and narrow it down some more as I also mentioned I am looking around the city but in fact I will only be in the city a week and then moving to Dollars Colony, so with that in mind here is what I am looking for:
I plan on making a trip maybe once a week so walking distance would be ideal but if I have to catch a bus then it's no biggie. I don't need any household goods and a few people have replied to my last post with links for household goods but I am only after groceries ie; fresh fruit, western foods, snacks, juice etc. Thanks everyone! | Moderator's note: I've merged the two recent Bangalore supermarket threads here. The one about MG Road remains on its own. Please don't start multiple threads on the same subject. | |

| Hi Shareen, Yes Big Bazaar is not only a home store but also a Super market which stocks Groceries, Vegetables and Fruits. However, I would suggest for fresh fruits, you may try the nearest Reliance Fresh Outlets and Nilgris. Unless you visit BB once, you would not get the actual picture. But each Big Bazar outlet varies in Size. Raghu Quote:
