This has been touched on before on here, but I had little luck today with the suiting recommendations, so I'll ask for fresh advice: where's a good place to get a cheap suit that's still 100% wool?

I was on commercial street today, checking out the tailors, and all had only wool/polyester blends. The prices were reasonable (Rs.5,000-6,000 for most fabrics), but they were 70% polyester. This may fly in a perpetually warm/hot climate like Bangalore, but back in Chicago, polyester suits won't do.

It appears that all of the tailors supplied by Raymond have no 100% wool fabrics. They directed me to Prestige, which, while nice, was about Rs. 11,500 on up, probably with tax on top of that. In the US, I get suits from Jos. A Bank's tailored for $200, which somewhat ironically say "made in India" on the tag.

Any thoughts on this? Is $250 the best I can do on a wool suit here?

Thanks so much. If I wind up scoring some suits, I'll post a full guide.

Sometimes i find the clothes manufactured in India to be cheaper in USA. So, same might be the case with wollen coats..
Also, i agree to your point abt pricing. Bangalore is damm expensive place and retailers are hungry for (unhealthy)profits at the cost of customers.

Wool suits have been FOUND. They aren't delivered yet, but since I'm leaving India the day after I get them, I may not be able to post an immediate review of the final product.

I checked Dispensary Road, one block south of Commercial Street, and found a great place called Sree Vigneshwara Textiles (90 Dispensary Road). I scored three custom-tailored wool suits of varying fabrics, ranging from Rs. 5000-7000 each in total cost (fabric + tailoring), making it about 19,500 for the three. One of them's a three-piecer. I also bought some cotton slacks at 500-600 each. For both the suits and slacks, I had quite a few fabric choices, albeit not endless. They did have two giant rooms full of fabrics, though, and I'm sure you could get plenty of good shirts or cotton suits if that's your bag.

So far, great service, great prices, and easy to deal with. When I actually get my hands on the clothes, I'll let you know how they turned out.

In sum: there are great, tailored, cheap suits in Bangalore, at Sree Vigneshwara Textiles at 90 Dispensary Road, just south of Commercial Street.

I read in one of the forums the Raymond's Tailor in Koramangala, Bangalore is good. Has anyone had any suits tailored from them? I will be in Bangalore in August and on the look out for a good tailor.
I heard Syed Bawkher in Chennai is good but expensive. Would like to know what is the difference between Raymond & Syed Bawkher.
Is there any well known place in Bangalore where I can get suit fabric (pure wool - 180s -200s) for a reasonable price?
Kinzor please let us know whether you were happy with the fit and the quality of the suits.

Raymond's is a fabric supplier. There are probably varying degrees of "official" Raymond shops, but you'll see a Raymond sign hung out of every other tailor in the city. For a really super nice suit, my limited experience suggests the small tailors may be out of the game, as it was tough to find any wool, let alone 180s, at them. There's a place on Commercial Street called Prestige for Men which had tons of fancy suits and a generally ritzy atmosphere. I bet they could make you something really nice. I've also heard good things about PN Rao on MG Road (any Bangalorean or rickshaw can take you to MG Road or Commercial Street with ease). I can't give you price estimates, sadly, but I bet they're still cheaper than the west. Another option would be to buy the fabric from Prestige or PN Rao, then take it to a smaller tailor. However, when you're dealing in super fancy fabrics, the fabric cost will be most of it, and tailoring will be relatively little.

Waiting on pins and needles to see my suits. The first fitting went quite well, and although the first suit was far from finished, it looked nice. This was also the sort of place where you could take a magazine and have them copy it, btw.

The suits are spectac. I won't say they're $2,000 Armanis or anything, but for my tastes, they're wonderful. Perfectly fitted, and that's 90% of a suit's look. The slacks are great, too. I can't recommend this place more highly.

Hey, so today and yesterday I went into this place. I bought 5 suits 1 tuxedo, and 19 shirts for around 600. Tell me how did your suits work out? Are they made well, were you happy with your purchase?

Thanks by the way, it was from your advice on this forum that I went there!
