Yes, and very good for you too! My favorite salad is thiny sliced green and purple cabbage with some carrot slices. Then, sliced apples. Perfect for hot days - the apple sweetens the cabbage overload! Why does India Mike always make me so hungry!!! -C |

http://english.kbs.co.kr/life/trend/1369595_11857.html Granted, its an acquired taste, but you could do worse. Kimchi and pickled gherkins are a match made in heaven. And kimchi is an excellent ingredient for soups , hot or cold. Chuck a coupla chunks of diced white chicken meat in hot water, bring to boil and add the kimchi. Add salt to taste and voilą. The pepper in the kimchi hits the roof of your skull like a mustard rush! BTW, Chinese cabbage is great for instant kimchi, and Namdhari veggies are all organic. They used to arrange guided tours to their farms for the finicky. The buyers, I mean not the farms! Bon Appetit! Last edited by anton : Jul 19th, 2008 at 13:01. Reason: For detail |

there's a great place for getting salad vege's on MM road - its adjacent to mosque road - 10 mins [perhaps less] from wheeler road. as usual - cant remember the name but its akin to namdhari - just maybe a namdhari too sheesh - airtel network is down in mumbai - or else would've found out the name. anyways - there's this amazing 'mix' you get at any of the 'nilgiris' outlets... its called 'ragi huri hittu' no - it aint japanese!its roasted raagi - just mix with sugar, water and/or milk and glug it down. raagi = rich in calcium + iron + fibfre. :brishti |

This thread is almost turning into a candidate for the Recipes section! but I will leave it here because it lists useful outlets in Bangalore.
Making your own salad is so simple - just find whatever veg. is in season that you could use - e.g. carrot, capsicum, onion, spinach leaves, cabbage, lettuce (very difficult to find in many places in India)cucumber, tomato etc. if there's a tulsi bush nearby chop some leaves, or use basil or thyme sprinkled in. You could have chopped boiled eggs if you eat those, a tin of tuna, chick peas, corn.. If you are a while in Bangalore try growing some rocket in a pot - that's delicious chopped up. Parsley too. To all this flora (a bit of fauna if you chop chicken or tuna or your cold meats!) you can add nuts, sesame seeds, sultanas. Make up your concoction, put on dressing of choice, and you have a wholesome meal less costly and with no risk, possible if you visit the salad bars.

If it has to be a local eatery choose idlis instead of dosas.
