Ready for adventure... now where to go?
Hi Indiamikers!
I'm arriving in Bangalore on 17.December and have until the 24th to explore on my own. I'm thinking of getting acclimated for a day or two and heading over to Pondicherry and perhaps Mamallapuram? I picked the latter randomly, but would really love to hear your suggestions. Later in December I'll head to Mysore and Kerela- but would love suggestions of places to explore. I'm not sure how much time to spend in each place, and would like to see the towns, but would also like to cover ground. I'll be traveling solo and would prefer to train around rather than long-distance bus. So much thanks! I can't wait to hear your expertise... -lindsey |

It depends on your interests really. You can do a tour of the temple towns in Tamil Nadu, if you want to experience the richness of Dravidian culture.

Hi Indizen,
One of my fears, and this may sound silly, is to get 'templed out.' I've been to Bangalore and Mysore once before, and there are several places I'll want to revisit, however I want to go to Pondicherry because of the french-influenced culture. I'd like to visit places that have rich cultures, are a bit 'different,' and aren't too terribly urbanized (that's what bangalore is for ) I picked Mamallapuram becuase it seems laid back as well. So I suppose i'm looking for relaxed beautiful and unique places! |

You could go for a relaxed beach holiday, along the western coast from Mangalore to Mumbai.

Mammalapuram is very relaxed and there's some good seafood there. Lots of hotels; any guidebook can give you names and prices. They're all pretty close together.
No train goes there, or to Pondi; best bet is buses from Chennai.
