Post Radio Taxi in Bangalore

I noticed a thread in Delhi forums about Radio taxis. Similar services exist in Bangalore and I am surprised not enough people are aware of it. With the fear in arriving guests about late night transport and the lack of proper travel arrangements at Airports, Railway Stations (and even movie theatres!) these are a boon to the people of Bangalore.

Just thought I'd leave some information on good taxi services that are just a call away. As the Delhi-post suggests, the best thing to do is make a long-distance call and book the cab in advance. Then call from a local phone when you arrive, to confirm the mobile number and vehicle number. They will usually wait for you outside and are generally courteous. The fare is Rs.15 per KM with a minimum of Rs.120 for first 10KM (if i remember right). Night charges are 50% extra (which is exorbitant, but cheaper than other options).

These taxis are about 30% cheaper compared to prepaid taxi run by KSTDC at the airport.

Some of the good cabs we have used:

Cel Cabs +91-80-2346-6666
City Safari +91-80-2553-9999
Spot Taxi +91-80-4110-0000

Radio Taxi Bangalore

I've just arrived back in the US after a three month stay in Bangalore. I used both Spot Taxi +91-80-4110-0000 and City Taxi- 080-25510000. I found Spot City taxi more reliable but they are a small outfit and don't usually have cabs available if you call them in the evenings especially during rush hour around 6 to 7pm. Your best bet is to call them early and make a booking. I used City taxi when Spot Taxi was not available, but their rates were higher than City Taxi, Make sure you confirm the rate when you make your booking, by clearly specifying your pick- up and drop- off destination, as the Driver will sometime give you a different rate. Otherwise, I had no problems with either of them. They were always on time and the drivers helpful.

there is a new one, called Meru Cabs : 080 44224422 . They charge about Rs. 15/km and I personally trust them to take me to new airport late at night.

Even though most of the Radio Taxis are fitted with digital meters, they will never operate the same for some strange reasons. They will take the readings from speedometer for distance calculation.

Only exception is Spot Taxi service. In this service, I have noticed that the meter changes to night fare as soon as the clock goes past 10:00 pm so that you can pretty assured about the right charges.

Most of the radio taxi drivers wont't return change. Not only that when you pay as per meter, they demand more money. If you complain to operators, they will just listen that is all.

Hence a bit of advice.

Just like autos, tell the driver that you are not going to pay more before availing the services.

Airport Taxis (Easy/ meru cab) charge 15 Rs / Km 24 hrs a day. No extra charges in night. Staff is courteous. If you going home after 10 from Movie/party, this is safe bet.

pravasi: I agree with you that most of taxi's dont retun change. Keeping 100's, 50's and some 10's is good idea instead of giving 500's to driver. This is case with even BIAL taxi's also. (Even if they round of to nearest 10, it is good enough).
