Bandipur and Nagarhole national parks are recommended. You'll find lots of posts on them on IM.

Coffee estates in Coorg / Madkieri areas are very good places to visit. You have plenty of homestays in that area too and quite a few places to visit nearby. Another weekend getways is Wynad in Kerala which is around 4 hours from Mysore. You can also try www.junglelodges.com for weekends visits.

second that about coffee estates.

So many places around S India are an overnight train away from BLR that if you are the type that awakens refreshed enough to enjoy the day, you options are many.

You can decide your journey depending on the number of KM you are willing to travel. For weekend trip you can try BR hills, Devrayanadurga, Nandi Hills, Bheemeshwari, chickmagalur, Kushalnagar, Yelagiri etc. Check the site - www.travelingbeats.com/blog to find info on some of the spots.

Having to wait for my on going flight (to Kuala Lumpur) for six hours I originally planned to have a beer at my favorite café Koshi's , but that was from HAL to downtown and back; from the new airport that venture will be out of the question, so my question here is: are there any nice places to visit in the immediate surroundings of the BIA(L); that might be a friendly village and does not ave to be anything spectacular. What I fear is just hanging around between all kind of devastated landscapes by all kinds of industries. In that case I better stay at he airport.

saw on the map that the Nandi Hills seem not too far from BIAL (is that so by traffic etcetera?). Are they worthwile? and how do the authorities on BIAL cooperate with travellers who like to make an excursion between a domestic arrival and a international departure?

Nandi Hills are worthwile. They are pretty. There is an interesting temple. There are also the usual touts and the place is overrun with monkeys, which may be a good or bad thing from your perspective.
