Organic Palm Tree Syrup

Hi there,

Does anyone know a shop in Bangalore where I can get organic Palm Tree Syrup (known in India as Neera) or Madal Bal Tree Syrup?

Thank you,

Shareen

Hi Shareen,

The terminology you have used I am under little bit confusion! Anyways following are my thoughts & the correctness of the same kindly verify with somebody.

The NEERA (locally) is something extraction of a coconut tree which is available outskirts of Bangalore like where coconut groove mostly exits. I had tasted once some years ago near Maddur (place name) which is on Mysore road.

And the other thing like SENDHI (locally) or toddy which is of extraction of Organice date palm tree, you may get this in outskirts Bangalore also I think (ofcourse it s banned by Karnataka Government) This drink s something of alcoholic in nature I heard. But so far I didn't get an opportunity to taste the same.

Hope this piece of information may help you..

Have a nice time!

Hi there, no I believe I have the name correct and I am not after Sendhi.

It is Palm Tree Syrup or Madal Bal Tree Syrup or Neera Syrup. You use it for detox. I am not after alcoholic drink. The syrup is similar to maple syrup and I would buy organic maple as a substitute if I can find it.

Thank you,

Shareen

I dont think they sell it anymore legally
Neera if exposed to sunlight (or left aside for some hours) ferments & becomes alcohol & hence it is banned I believe.

If they banned toddy in Karnataka an angry mob would burn down the Vidhana Soudha. Never seen organic palm products, so good luck with that. The regular stuff is widely available. I don't think a lot of pesticides/fertilizers are used on toddy palms, which tend to be scattered about the landscape.
