Bangalore: Old-School Eateries
Hey, this month's Outlook Traveller has a good article on ancient idly/dosa/vada joints that are still going strong. Can't find it online, but the places covered are
MTR (duh) Brahmin's Cafe (Shankarpuram) Gumdappa's Hotel (Nagarthpet) BB Bakery (Iyengar Cross) Vidyarthi Bhavan (in Gandhi Bazaar) New Krishna Bhavan (Malleswaram) I haven't been to any of them (not even MTR--too crowded!), but I hope to remedy that soon. Prashant, it's BB Bakery, at 22 BVK Iyengar Cross, in Chikpet. Supposedly the place started in 1898.

I had lunch at MTR recently. Read about it here:
http://india-outside-my-window.blogs...ch-at-mtr.html By the way, it only looks crowded because they let everyone in the dining hall at the same time since the service is canteen-style where they come around with stainless steel buckets and everyone is served at the same time. Worth the wait anyway, it's not only a meal but an experience! |

Veena Stores, 15th Cross, Margosa Road, Malleshwaram for excellent Idlis and Vadas. Don't expect any seating as there is none. It's just a shop doling out delicious food.
