Me and my wife are planning to travel from Mumbai to Bangalore by road via pune in the first week of december. has anybody done aroad trip on this route? Could anyone suggests how long will the journey be? Also if i need to have a overnight halt, is there any good and cheap place to stay on the highway? |

route we took
day one : Mumbai - Kolhapur via pune by pass. dep 9:30 am arrival 6:30 PM Day two : Kolhapur - haveri ( stopped at belgaum for half a day to meet relatives)dep 7:30 am arrival 7:30 PM day three : Haveri - Mysore dep 7:30 am - arr 7:30 pm ( we were headed to bangalore but a road jam/ strike at tumkur forced us to instead take an alternative route to mysore internal state roads was good fun) we were headed to ooty and had about 4 day in hand so took it easy. almost never driving after dark. the roads were being repaired then and so in some places the drving was slow. I would recommend that you budget atleast two full days of driving. Leave early before 6 if possible day one you could get to Belgaum or even Haveri. next evening you will be in bangalore. Arm you self with road atlas / maps of each state that you will be travelling through. you could also visit Wiaa at churchgate. they will give you a step by step road guide which is also very helpful. Best of luck mani |

Hi..Even we(me and my wife) did this trip last week. We took NH 4 and the road is Suuuperb.....except some 150 KMs stretch from Davanager to Hiriyur, which is terrible
. We left Mumbai at 7 in the morning and reached Bangalore at around 11 in the night(16 hours) . We stopped for half an hour at dharwad to have lunch. Even u can do this if both of u drive. One more important thing is that only toll charges on this road will cost u some 400 to 450/-. Even when we drove back from B'lore to Mumbai, it took us 16 hours. I had a great time.U have a safe journey. |
