The 69th Annual Ram Navavami Music Festival got Underway Yesterday.
Here is a link to the artists who will be performing during this month long celebration. It is quite an impressive line-up and is a treat to lovers of Indian classical Music.

Maybe this thread needs to be moved to the Bangalore section of the forum?

The stand out Artists for me would be Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan (violin)and U Srinivas(Mandolin).I hope DD has a look at that Link and give his choice for Must see concerts as My knowledge of Classical music is quite bad.

I could not get a better link Captn

It really is quite a list, and I could probably go to every concert without regretting it. But here's my list...

N. Ramini... Flute Genius

TNS Krishna... accompanied on violin by a friend of mine

Vijay Shiva... Just superb, no-fuss classical vocal. All music and no messing.

TVS Shankaranarayan... a great singer of the older generation

S. Shashank... was a child-prodigy flautist. A genius of the younger generation.

N. Ravikiran. The Chitraveena is a rare instrument, similar to the usual South Indian Veena in shape, but it is fretless and played similarly to a slide guitar. Another child-prodigy.

The Lalgudi brother & sister, violin duet, will be an evening of superb music too

For myself, I'd have to start looking at the accompanists too. Try not to miss people like Umayalapuram K Sivaraman, Manoj Siva and K V Prasad on mridangam. Those are names that just jumped out at me --- I didn't read the whole list.

To add to Nick's list
- Violin duet by Mysore Manjunath/Nagraj
- Carnatic/Hindustani jugalbandi by Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Mysore Manjunath. They had the same thing last year too. To put it mildly it was easily the best concert i have been to. My only problem was that it didnt last too long. Hopefully they'll play longer this time.

Now have to run to catch Yesudas for the first time

Finally saw the list. A novice like me does not recognise more than a few names, but... as a teenager I met today would repeatedly say.... awesome

Delhi..The Bhakti music festival in Nehru park in April, and the Sufi one in September? (qutab, I think).. both are annuals.
Delhi has quite a lot of music performances. Many are not organised 'music festivals', and only announced last minute in newspapers.

One minus.. more than a fair share of wannabe celebrities and pretentious folk in the crowd, but that should not bother you.

Chennai is the hub of Southern classical music.

You can check the listings in The Hindu newspaper each morning: you will be very unlucky if you are here for just one evening and nothing is on, most days there will be a choice of concert to see.
