Leaving Bangalore - Do I need to go to the FRO?

Hi all,

Need some advice. I am leaving Bangalore to head back to UK after 11 months. Do I need to do anything before I leave? I vaguely remember someone telling me that I need my Resident permit stamped by the FRO and maybe even some police clearance?

I really hope not. The whole FRO / Police experience was unbelievably convoluted

Thanks

Hi Kismet,

You dont have get a stamp on your FRRO. It would automatically expire by the date mentioned in the Residence Permit.

Earlier there used to be a clearance to be sought from Income Tax, but I heard it has been abolished.

Should not be a problem at all more so when your visa and WP is still valid.

Lets ask the Expert. Nick, am I right ?

As far as I know, yes.

If leaving finally from India, one is supposed to surrender the Residents' Permit, either at the FRRO or at the airport on the way out. Short absences do not require any action at all, except you may well be expected to show your RP if you have been India over 180 days --- or if they ask for it.

I'm not the expert on leaving permanently, and I hope not to become one! However, if it was me... I'd either work on the basis that they don't know whether I'm coming back or not, and keep it or offer it up at the airport.

Also... I have a PIO card; I am not familiar with any employment visa requierments --- except I also understand that the tax clearance thing was done away with quite some time back.
