India 09.. Bangalore here i come!
...it has come again the time to get some stash of kitty-food and tell to my room mate to take good care of my furry baby... cause Yes - India here i come again!
This year the adventure will start in Bangalore, landing in the last week of August. I choose Bangalore as arrival destination as i have good memories of this city from my previous visit in town, dated more or less eleven years ago; it also sits quite much in the middle of the various states i might be travelling to afterwards. The idea is to start with spending few days in town and lazily check around the many things this lovely city has got to offer - the Lalbagh gardens are definitely a place i'd love to visit again - so am wondering if any of yous have some tips and reccomandations on different interesting places to visit and yes, am also reading other threads meanwhile Would also consider the possibility to meet up and check out few places also with some fellow I-Mikers, as i'll be again a solo-female-traveller, which i love, but at the same time it's kinda easier exploaring some areas when you got... lets say - 4 or more eyes open then only a couple thanks ya'all in advance! ![]()

Nice to see you back, Larkilli!
Hope you are not disappointed in B'lore; I spent two days with friends there and then couldn't wait to get out. <sigh>

Depends on why you go to B'lore, of course. The shopping is good.
The air is foul; the pollution there made me sick to my stomach! There are at least half-a-dozen more interesting places to go in Karnataka state! |

mmmmmmmm The reason to go to bangalore was to do some fishing in a nearby water sanctuary, but i guess with all the pollution you speak about the fish must have long disappeared.

Bangalore to Mysore for the Weekend
Hullo. I'll have a little time to travel before my internship starts in BLR on September 1st. I arrive to BLR on 27 August. Thinking about traveling to Mysore for the weekend or perhaps another hill station nearby. Or possibly even the coast. If you are interested in traveling together for the weekend, send me a message on my blog here. Although, I will have to leave to come back to BLR on 31 August.

You might have to mention the range (budget), duration of stay, what would you like to do in Bangalore mainly(to decide where would it be convienent) before someone can help you with options ![]() AND to mention: Bangalore is still beautiful. Yes, the city has grown haphazardly over the last 11 years, just like any other Indian city, but you still find that warmth which you had experienced then. Welcome back to Bangalore ![]()

Hey Larkilli,
Welcome to Bangalore..... Bangalore has changed a lot in 11 years. Lot of pollution lot of people from outside and day by day bangalore itself is also expanding. I think I can get a picture of what bangalore was from you. Anyway Lalbagh still has the greenary...lot of shopping malls has opened in last few years. Even the wheather has also changed as it becomes hot in May and June. Now come to your accomo....u can stay in BTM from where u can access all the places easily and moreover a descent place to stay for a single woman. By the way Banerghata National Park can be one option for you to visit and Mysore and Coorg and Nagarhole National Park....oh the list is endless.... About your foodies....lot of variety..you name it bangalore has it.... and about meet-up...Let me know if we can meet-up and plan some trip....drop a mail to rajdeep1510@gmail.com Regards Last edited by rajdeep1510 : Aug 20th, 2009 at 01:44. |

I guess that for these two or three days in town i could more or less round it up to a max of.. lets say 800 rupees per night? something like that? but definitely want to be in a clean, safe and nice place... and rajdeep1510: thanks for your input too, but what is BTM? the foodies - yes i do remember having had great pleasure in the local kitchen, so was more asking names of various restaurants you guys might have been and find worth it to be suggested here... thanks ya'all! ![]() |

1. In the main areas like in & around MG Road (which would be expensive in the range of 2k+/night - But do explore, you might find ones in your range, thankx to the recession) or Gandhinagar/Majestic area (good rooms which should be within the budget you mentioned - 800-1k). See this forum for those options. - You would have good connectivity options to go around the city - Easy to return back if you go somewhere (travel - by bus or train) esp if you are in Majestic - You can visit the various temples/parks etc - MG Road is good if you want to hit the party circuit or go pubbing 2. You can stay in the suburbs or beyond the city centre, like BTM Layout (as suggested). I am not sure if you would find enough options for staying in such places. There will be a handful of places & not many options to stay. Also, you may have issues with travel/connectivity to whereever you want. I have heard of +ve reviews of Royal Lodge in Majestic (nice & clean, not expensive, safe etc ) here on this forum. You can probably check it out. Places to visit - you know it better I believe. If you have lotsa time, you may consider going away from the city - if interested in architecture/history, try day trips to Mysore OR Belur & Halebidu. May be a bit strenuous, but would be good from a photography aspect. Try to take the KSTDC (Govt owned) tour to these places. Places to eat - there are dime a dozen. If its, south indian food, there are places like MTR which you could try. Check Burrp to find your liking. |

I thought you made a trip in the first half of the year. Is this a new one? In any case, good luck!
I used to have loads of street coffee and Pongal (the savory one) for an amazing breakfast in B'lore. Tot ziens.
