How should I spend my first weekend in Bangalore?

Hi everyone! I'm new to Bangalore - just arrived this week.

I'm from the US and I'm volunteering here for 3 months.

I live with an Indian family in the suburbs and we work in the slum communities, so I haven't seen much of Bangalore yet outside of that!

Any advice on what I should explore during my first weekend here?

Hi there

Welcome to Bangalore! Im Gemma, 32 from the UK. Ive been here about 8 months. Im not sure what you like to do in your spare time, but there is good shopping around MG road area and the usual sight seeing, temples, parks etc. If you want familer suroundings for a change the Hard Rock Cafe is great for meeting people from all over the world. Im usually free most sundays except this one! if you want a chat or just ask questions mail me back.
It wont take long to get settled in honest!!

Relocating to Bangalore from Florida

Hello:
I am sure you are having good time in Bangalore. I will be relocating to Bangalore in November 1st week.
I work in Neurosurgery helping surgeons during surgeries.
I associate myself with Jiddu Krishnamurthi's philosophy and hoping to spend time with other associates in Bangalore.
I am relocating to India after spending 15 years in America.
How are you getting along in Bangalore? Is there a night life in Bangalore?
Madhu

I enjoy playing tennis and looking forward to find some nice tennis courts around.

Take care and have fun

Hi,

You could try out Banerghata National Park which is about 15 Km from city centre. You may also try meeting up with like minded travellers based in India. Always makes sense to travel in Group rather alone...It helps..

Sam

To be honest I have never played on the lawn but I like to play on Clay courts. In India I think mostly we got are clay courts.
How long are you intending to live in Bangalore?
Where can we find a good studio apartment on a month to month basis?
By the way, how do you manage Kannada language? Is it essential to learn Kannada?
Thanks so much and can't wait to get into Bangalore?

Why don't you start a Texas Hold Em get together. Bangalore desperately needs it.

Hi,
I will be here for more than a year, I dont think u ve much options so far studio apartments are concerned..I think finding accommodation for a month is difficult...PG is good option but I personally do not like it..
well knowing kannada is not required so far u r at bangalore..

Studios - Not a concept in Blore (unless you rent a plain room & haggle with the cooking there)
Its typically 1BHK - rental is Rs 5k-8k/month - but this largely depends on where you want to live. Do you have an idea? Also, 1BHKs apartments (not houses) are not soo common. Mention where would you be living (or working).

Kannada is not mandatory - but a few basic words would help. You would learn them once you are here with your basic interactions (terms for - how to go to xyz place? route? how much? etc). Bangalore is pretty cosmopolitian as you know & its applicable to language too. So, you need not worry abt this aspect.
