This is my (i.e., Google's) first hit, I assume they have a site of their own: http://www.hotelsbangaloreindia.com/nilgiris-nest.html

I have stayed there twice, first in 1996, then in 2005. It is a good hotel, but not what I'd call "budget" anymore. Both times I stayed I walked in and found a room available. I would definitely recommend it.

HI ARTWALLAH
thank you for your response.
A few questions.
1. In terms of location, is it convenient to MG Road, city centre? 2. What were the rates per night ?
3. please expand on your statement that NILGIRIS is not a
budget hotel anymore
suggestions would be appreciated

Hello Abbrey--
It is very convenient to MG Road, only a block or so away, and in the city center, that is the modern city center. The bus and train stations are much further away. I'm afraid I can't remember the rates now, that was 2 years ago when I was there. I do remember that next to Mumbai, it was the most expensive hotel on our trip from Mumbai through So. India. We flew to Bangalore because our Air Decca flight to Chennai was cancelled and had to spend a night there unexpectedly. Since I had stayed in Nilgiris Nest in 1996, we got a cab there from the airport. Compared to the rest of the hotels we stayed in, the prices were higher, the rooms more "international" standard--larger beds, more space to live in, not at all shabby, more furniture (I remember a set of comfortable chairs and a coffee table where we ate our breakfast (included in the price and quite good with a lot of things to be selected the night before) and for all that, especially in a city, you pay more--it was a very nice hotel, but not the lower end, cheaper typically So. Indian places I usually stay in. We only spent one night there at the beginning of our trip, and I am not fond of Bangalore, so I don't really have very strong memories of it. Sorry I can't be of more help.
