Hi moorhen,

Ganesha is celebrated for almost a week. You will find many street side pandals for this. If possible visit someone's house as well. It is pretty much everywhere, particularly in the evenings, it will be difficult to miss.

Just move around local streets and that should do it!

The festival starts on 23rd August and goes on for the next 10 days. On the 10th day the Ganesh Idol is immeresed in a lake, river or sea.

These are a few places where the idols would be immersed.

Madavara Lake, Hulimavu Lake

The Ganesh Pandal of Nammura Hotel, situated in JP Nagar is a well known one.

Ganesh Chaturthi is on 23-Aug-09 and this is the day that we install the statue of Lord Ganesha in our homes, offices, community areas, ...

The immersion of the statue takes place on the 11th day from installation. Since we Indians are absolutely crazy fans of Lord Ganesha, the immersion is a real MASS SCALE festivity on the roads leading to immersion spots in any city. Lots of people have started doing the immersions on 5th day, 7th day or 9th day to avoid the crowds of 11th day ...

You can visit a lot of pandals where the Lord Ganesha statues are installed, especially the bigger and famous ones (do google that) on various streets, markets, ...

The real fun part is to participate in the immersion procession, though be warned, it can turn nasty sometimes due to some drunkards who do not seem to have their priorities in life straight ...

Ganpati Bapa Moriya!!!!!

Is the celebration still happening?

Hello. I am in Bangalore. I would love to see the last day of the celebration for Lord Ganesh. Have I missed the end of the celebration? If the first day of the festivities started on 23 August 2009, would the last day be 31 August or 1 September? Where do they dunk Lord Ganesh in Bangalore?
