Decent Store for Baby Goods Bangalore?

Bangalore IM'ers, although I've spent many a day in Bangalore shopping, I need to find out where I can buy a decent, though not exorbitantly priced baby-buggy for my little boy - he's coming up 7 years, but is as small as a two year old basically. I've bought several buggies over the years but they've broken fairly quickly on the roads (or lack of!!) in Dharmapuri/Krishnagiri areas - so I'm going to be looking for a slightly more sturdy one. Any suggestions on where to get one will really be appreciated......

Are you still in Bangalore ? Pity I am not as you cannot call me

There is a fair shop in MG road. It is in the inside shopping area immediatly after the Indian Coffee House (if you are moving from brigade road side) and before food world/barten center etc. They are quite fair priced.

Then there is baby land. You need to turn into dickenson road in from MG road, continue beyond Manipal Center and take the first right. After Tommy Hilfiger you will see this shop on the left side.

There are a few shops in Commercial Street as well which is quite cheap and another one in CMH road near the ICICI bank ATM (a bit after the KFC). If you can manage to find the shop near the Indian Coffee House in MG Road, they will also guide you to the right shop where you can pick up stuff that they dont have...

Happy Hunting !!!

Thank Sudheer - I'm still in Ireland until Novermber 1st - then back in India. My nearest big City is Bangalore (90k), I've bought the buggies from local pharmacies who kindly ordered them from their catalogues before, but they're so fragile, that they've busted on the walkways in less than 2 weeks...so, I'll take a look at these places you kindly mentioned. Thanks again!

Quality

The problem is the quality of the manufacturing of so many products in India. You seem to have experienced that in just this one item. A buggie/pram as we used to call them when we were growing up in India is better brought from the outside. Why can't you get a good one in Ireland and take it with you? We did that. But I must say that because of the condition of the sidewalks etc. our buggie got pretty beat-up and worn on that trip. But at least it did not break down.

Hi, The problem with taking a buggy with me is that I'm registered disabled through scoliosis and osteoarthritis and need help when travelling, especially on the long walk to the aircraft that one experiences at most airports, otherwise I could have taken three in fact - I had three given to me last year, for Tony. So I have no choice but to buy one in India. Travelling alone on long haul trips is ok, but I do have trouble carrying even my hand baggage for even short periods(I use a cane except when I'm "pushing" Tony in a buggy, for longer walks) and I'm normally afforded the courtesy of a wheelchair from the check-in desk to aircraft - though I don't like this too much - it's just that they want to get me quickly to the place where I can walk onto the aircraft alone! I'm just wanting a decent buggy for Tony and will be stopping off in Bangalore to collect him, before I go on to Krishnagiri!

Shanti, when you come shoping in Bangalore. call me. I will take you around. The three places Sudheer mentioned are actually the ones I'd recommend too.
Baby Shop on Ulsoor Rd. , and Toys World on CMH. Both are reasonably near my home / work. I will be glad to tag along.

Do you have a 'Lifestyle' showroom in banglore? I think they have one on Richmond-victoria Road junction.
I just went to the one in gurgaon today and saw lot of things for kids including some nice buggies, Don't know about the prices but definately they were of international quality and looked strong.

I was last in Bangalore about 4 years ago, but at the time there was an excelent baby clothes shop in Brigade Road, on the east side of the road, and closer to MG road than Residency road.

The clothes weren't cheap, maybe Rs6-800 for a jumper and maybe Rs1000+ for a nice dress, but they were very good quality and would cost 3-4 times as much in the UK, the clothes were also more western than Indian.

To Bangalorian members, is the shop still there? does anyone know the name of the place?

Kids Kemp has closed down.

You do get good but expensive stuff at Mothercare. We recently purchased a pram for our daughter. It's tough and can be used on BLR roads.

And there's a shop called Pinks and Blues at Jayanagar. You will get all the stuff your kid will require for next 2-3 years.

12th Main Road, 5th Cross Road, Near Sagar Clinic, Indira Nagar -- Mothercare, above Crossword book store

on the same road, "Apple of My I" is also a children's store.

Both of these two are kind of expensive...

you can shop on CMH road where there are several toy and baby clothing shops....CMH road is just few blocks away from 12th main road
