Best budged accomodiation in Bangalore?

Hello! I'm looking for a good and cheap place to stay at in Bangalore? any suggestions?

Bangalore is one of the worst cities for good budget accomm. We usually try to stay at the Retiring rooms at the main Railway Station, opp the bus station. Often fully booked but we've arrived early (6am) and got rooms. Price is around 300 rupees for 2. Clean, obviously central & great for a one or two night stopover. Auto rickshaw to airport 80 rupees. You must have a forward rail ticket. Good luck.

the usual place westerners with a sack of stuff upon their backs stay is the MG road area. Any rik driver will take you there.

Majestic area and cottonpet road area (near majestic) is the area where you will find the maximum nos of budget hotels in bangalore. On this road, u will find 100's of hotels on either side of the road. These areas are not that clean since they represent the old bangalore. But, u will find a decent hotels there. From the majestic bus stand which is opp to railway station, u will find 100's of hotels in all directions.
MG road area doesn't have much budget hotels and its very difficult to find a room. Autos might charge around 50 bucks to mg road area from majestic.

I've stayed at the Royal Lodge a couple of times; it fulfills the requirements of clean and cheap.

yup - go with manzey's post... cheap and you'll get the local flavour. take an a/c room - temperatures are soaring there too i believe.
accomodation on mg road is expensive...
besides you'll be in BLR for a couple of days at most, wont you Mats - before you move onto hampi?

Yeah brishti.. I'm acctually only staying for maybe to nights, than moving on to Mysore -> Cochin -> Goa, and then Hampi!

I've heard Bangladore is beautiful, but expensive, so i suppose I wont stay for long, my budget is quite small...

So, what to do in Bangalore for two days?

Cheap (I paid $400 for a double), simple but very clean... Friendly staff, right next to the railway station...

why go to bangalore at all?
its just another amorphous urban city -

you'll be in chennai if i remember...
so:
chennai - cochin
cochin - hampi [ dont know the train route, but i guess you'll have to bus/train via somewhere ]
hampi - goa [ again a convoluted routed ]
goa - mumbai

take the konkan railway mats... travels all along the western coastline, right upto goa.
i think it originates from mangalore - heck steven would know best.
amazing journey - amazing scenery.
and you can keep hopping off - there're gorgeous places on the coast.

i aint looking at the map - but i think from goa to hampi is the wrong way to go.
hope others chip in... steven would be best

The reason I chose the
Chennai - Bangalore - Mysore - Cochin - Madgaon - Hampi - Magdaon . Mumbai is becaouse i've heard god thing about the different journeys. And I might have looked at Steven_ber's List of Scenic rail trips

: Scenic rail trips -- Kangra Valley Railroad.

To get to Mysore, I suppose I have to stop in Bangalore. Then I want to take the Calicut – Madgaon trip (isnt this the konkan railway?). After that Hampi - Madgaon and back. After that Madgaon - Mumbai (again, the konkan railway??)

Lets discuss this further on Mumbai - Kolkata and back

most trains that go to BLR from Chennai also go on to Mysore. This argument has been done to death, but I'm with the crowd that says BLR has no western tourist value.

Try Ajanta on M.G. road. Around 800 bucks per night I think, and unbeatable location

Another budget hotel on MR road is Hotel Brindavan. Must be around the same price as Ajanta. If you are looking cheaper than this, majestic area is the place with many hotels.

Have also been searching for budget accommodation in Bangalore (not an easy task using hostel sites)and have found the replies here invaluable. Thanks to all. The Royal Lodge looks like great value...thanks WonderWomanUSA.
