Bangalore Walks
Last Sunday I went for this amazing walk and I really can't say much about the walk apart from the fact that it was wonderful, for the fear of spoiling your joy and wonder if and when you do go for the walk. It is a Must Do for all people living in Bangalore and definitely a Should Not Miss for all people visiting Bangalore. I can claim with certainty, that you have not had a guided tour experience of this kind anywhere in India. The hosts are extremely charming people, not to mention erudite. If you are interested in History, or just love listening to stories of yore, this is just the thing for you.
You can choose between "Victorian Bangalore Walk" or "The Green Heritage Walk". The walks start at 7:00 most Sunday mornings, and end at 10:00 am followed by a buffet breakfast. The tickets are for Rs 500 which includes the history walk, refreshments and breakfast. For seniors and children below 12, it is Rs 300. For kids below 8, it is free. For "Victorian Bangalore Walk" call 98455 23660 / 98806 71192, for "The Green Heritage Walk" call 98450 68416. For more details visit: www.bangalorewalks.com |

I haven't heard from Sudheer and Vinay for the longest time, or I would have recomended the Bangalore Beer Walk / Pub Crawl for them.
Jyoti Da, next visit to Bangalore, make sure you are here on a Sunday. |

Thats a innovative thing but Rs 500 is on the higher side and will not attract many.

It is the best 500 I ever spent. It is totally worth it and much more. I mean, if you were to go to Ebony by yourself, the cover charge alone will be Rs 500! oops, I gave away the breakfast / brunch venue. And I personally think it is worth 500 and more just for the walk itself, let alone food.

Thats great Natasha,
I think I can do the bub/bar crawl/hop walk in Bangalore and sorry for not being online more often. BTW when in Bangalore I walked from Mysore road from back of RV college to Kanakpura or Banergatta road. it was great half day trek in midts of beautiful rock formations and bit of/ sort of hills (???). anyway next time in Banglore, We'll do the walk together. is it only weekends?

I went on the Victorian Walk soon after it was introduced and I must say it was a wonderful experience indeed. Well worth the price.

So is this walk worth the stay in Bangalore?
Hey guys!
So excited to be in India very soon!! I am flying into Bangalore early May but need to catch the train to Mysore on a sunday. Trains either depart 11am or 2pm. Is this walk so delightful to induce me to stay a few more hours in Bangalore and arrive in Mysore a lot later in the afternoon? I just dont want to arrive so late that i miss seeing the Maharaja Palace light up! ![]() ![]() |

Ajitkomminni, thank god there's someone other than me who can vouch for the walk.
wynwyn, will you be in Mysore only for a day? If you have more time in mysore, then you should definitely go for this walk. Since the palace only lights up on Sundays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. you should not miss that either. But from what info I have the Tipu Express (2614) is a superfast train that leaves Bangalore at 2:15 pm and reaches Mysore at 4:45 pm. So even if it is a little late, you should still have plenty of time to make it to the palace by 7:00 pm. yesterday, I went for another walk organised by Bangalore Walks. The Green Heritage walk in Lalbag. It is good, so I wouldn't dismiss it entirely, but I personally didn't think it was worth 500 RS. The walk is too long which would not be so bad except that the story telling / narrative just failed to hold my attention. (Two people dropped out right after the introduction!)In fact I found the hand out brochure more interesting than the host. It is also possible that my expectations were set by the Heritage walk and the Lalbag walk didn't measure up to it by a long shot. So I might be entirely biased! But this is just to reiterate, the heritage walk is a wonderful experience, and I will definitely recommend it to everyone. Last edited by brownboy66 : Mar 31st, 2008 at 12:16.
