Even though Delhi has its own share of problems, but it amazes me that it is doing a better job of managing the traffic even though the number of vehicles here is higher than all other metros combined together.. ![]() |

Some of my experiences.. I get honked at everytime I stop for a red signal. I have innumerous scars on my car, which I dont care about anymore. There is nothing called one-way/no entry. People swear at you if you try and follow lane discipline... Come to think of it, some instances of above have been noticed in other cities too. But, in general traffic sense is bad. I have been told KOL is as bad, but very little experience here.. so cannot comment. |

I have seen what political will can do in Hyderabad. In late year 2005 there was a Congress plenary (basically all hands meet) in which Sonia and Manmohan were also to come. Just 3 months before this hectic efforts simply changed the face of roads in and around the venue. I and others around the venue are still reaping the benefit of that effort. |

This is one of the disadvantage of being the capital city that every other person has some political connections and will do whatever (s)he feels right !! I dont think this kinda political pressure is felt by any other city police or administration !! |

Karthik, please post your experience of driving in Bangalore; because I think Bangalore drivers are also pretty bad.

But things that are different in Bangalore: I get honked at everytime I stop for a red signal (Yes, only after 10 PM) I have innumerous scars on my car, which I dont care about anymore (No instance in Bangalore, yet) There is nothing called one-way/no entry (I guess we should give some credit here, people are sensitive to one ways and no entries, may be because we have had it for a longer time now) People swear at you if you try and follow lane discipline... (he he he, lane discipline, I must have been kidding myself) Like some other person said on the same thread (apologies dont remember the name), its all relative.. we have some way to go.. but the point again (crux of my post was not comparision between cities) is we know its bad, we know why its bad, and we know it needs improvement. BUT, that does not make this city as "unlivable" (not in the english dictionary) as it is made to be. |

... the car in front didn’t show a left signal and turned right.... ... the Auntiji on road didn’t give a blessing gesture to stop you, so that she could cross, while you were speeding at 60 (rare event in itself)... ...guy in Merc didn’t open the door in lickety-split to spit out , while you were just a foot away in the next car...aimlessly... Here I go again... ![]() |

My thoughts exactly. It one tool me 2.5 hours to travel 15km out from the Banagalore Airportafter a flight that arrived at 6pm. I now know why tickets on that flight was so cheap. If you fly into Banagalore during peak traffic hours, you won't be going very far for hours.

I bet that if your office was 15 - 20 Kms away then even you would need an hour to get there in a car. Staying near your place of work is a smart move. Traffic jams are here to stay regardless of the city.

I am delighted to know you can walk to work in 15 minutes.. in Chennai..
Incidentally, I know at least 15 - 20 of my friends who work in offices around the Cunningham road, bellary road, sadashivnagar areas who do the same in Bangalore too.. and think about it, they walk in roads shaded with blissfully green trees, humidity unknown, romantic temparatures and on footpaths!!! Oh my.. you lucky lot ![]() |

Even back home in New Zealand it used to take me an hour to drive to work, so I've done my time in traffic and this time I said, NO! |
