Bangalore-Mangalore Trip Itinerary

I, with my family (3 adults & 1 child of 6 yrs.) am planning a trip to Bangalore & Mangalore during X-mas holidays. Iternary is as follows:-

Mumbai to Bangalore by Udyan Exp.
3 nights stay in Bangalore. Visit Bannargata National Park
Travel to Mangalore by Day Express.
3 nights stay in Ocean Pearl or Saffron hotel. One day visit to Pilikula & Udupi.
Return to Mumbai by Matsyagandha Exp.

Please advise if above Iternary is OK. Kindly suggest some budget hotels/servive apts. in Bangalore (upto Rs. 1500/-).

Is a visit to Mangalore worth it?

Is it advisable to travel by Sleeper Class to enjoy the scenery. Somehow I feel claustophobic in AC compartments.

Banerghata National Park accessible area is a zoo. Just wanted to mention that in case you expect full natural surroundings.

You can also do a short trip to Bekal fort from Mangalore. Malpe beach is a nice place too.

The Bangalore to Mangalore via Bisle ghat is a very scenic route, but that's only for cars. The train route also has to cross the Western Ghats. But I did not see any day trains. Which train are you planning to travel by?
