Hi Folks,
Any idea where in Bangalore one can buy good quality camping gear (sleeping bags, warm jackets, trekking shoes, etc.). We are trekking to Sandakphu in December beginning and want to know where we can buy these things in Bangalore. Since we might (or not) be going through snow, most of this will have to be appropriately suited. Tried Wildcraft but not much choice for trekking shoes and jackets. Any ideas? Thanks. ![]() |

Hi,
You are planning for Sandakphu and you are going to touch Kolkata on your way. You can try some joints in Kolkata also (if you have some extra time in Kolkata). I am not sure about the price difference and all just a piece of info: Hiring tents sleeping bags etc.. in Kolkata and aournd.. I have a personal experience with this Cliffline products I use their sack and the man behind the product line is a real gem. His name is David (mobile no is already given by joemondal). Anyway you can always talk to anyone of them and just compare the cost / quality. BTW, be prepare for heavy snow at Sandakphu. Cheers, Somnath

Get off your ass sells adventure gear but keep in mind that some of their goods are unreasonably pricey. Ozone and Wildcraft are most popular gear makers in Bangalore. You have seen ozone website posted above, and you can go to wildcraft store in Jayanagar.
Wildcraft India Pvt. Ltd. Address: 121, 3rd Block, 8th Main, Jayanagar,, Bangalore-560011 Phone: +91 -80 -26647036 Fax: +91 -80 -22234818 |

Ozone website is good and I went to their Bangalore store to buy a rucksack today. But they do not have any of the rucksacks which they have shown on their website. Instead they had other rucksacks which were from a different company (they said its imported stuff). When I asked them that if I order them through their site what they are going to do? They told me that they make these only when they get bulk order. I asked they haven't mentioned this on their site and they were clueless. I am really not sure what these guys are into? Say if I order a rucksack do I need to wait till they get a bulk order? Anyways it would be good to talk to them over phone rather than going to their store. |

At 'Get of ur ass' I was point blank told that they dont have sacks, jackets or sleeping bags for sale. When I curiously wanted to know what they did have for sale, the sheepish reply was - "actually nothing now."
While I am sure some others have had a great experience, this is what I faced. Wildcraft in Cambridge Layout blatantly sticks inflated price tags over the original MRP or lies over prices for even standard Wildcraft products. Ozone, as mentioned earlier, does not have much choice or options at their location when compared with their website. Woodlands was expensive for jackets and shoes, and not very appropriate or trekking friendly. The best was Wildcraft Sadashivnagar. Though a very small shop, the guys there were very helpful and accommodating. A good place to check your options and actually buy equipment. Of course this is just my experience so enjoy checking out stuff in Bangalore and do keep us posted with any new places you come across. ![]() |
