Appliances/Household Items in Bangalore...best place to buy?
Am currently searching for the best place to buy appliances (washing machine, refrigerator, cooking stove, etc.,) as well as furnishings for a flat (sofa, dining table, decent bed, etc.,) and some few odds and ends to stock a kitchen.
I would like some tips/advice from some ladies (men too if you know) about where they had the best luck/experience...being a foreigner (without an expat's pay) I would like to get the best deal possible, as well as good quality and not be taken for a ride...
I did search through the forums and found several posts for chennai..but am in Bangalore, so thought of asking here.
Thanks in advance!

depending on your budget... have included basic + mid-way range places [others i'm sure will jump in and contribute as well]
it'll be convenient for you to ideally shop close to your place of residence.
my off the cuff - random suggestions:
for home appliances:
girias [they give a discount as do most other places if you buy all/most of your appliances there]
big bazaar
for furniture:
infantry road
home store
design store
for furnishings:
commercial street
home store
big departmental stores
welcome to BLR - and enjoy the weather

Hi,
Almost all the furniture available like sofa's, coats etc on marathahalli road are all imported malayasian stuff made of compressed partical board and their one shop on infantry road called sunrise furniture who sells real wood at a decent price.
As far the gadgets are concerned you have to check out with croma's, grihavibava, girias, reliance etc.

india$me... marathalli - great!!!!
you have a string of endless stores of varying quality + costs - right down airport road + the ring road.
most of the factory outlets are situated there - ie. products available with discounts.
you don't need to come into town!
shop right on your own backyard
have fun!

Well, go across to the "Home Town" store on the ring road there in Marathhalli for most of your furnishing needs. Look out for offers / sale like abroad when you get a good bargain.Electricals - fridge, tv, oven etc - just go over to one or two shops like Pai, Girias, etc and check up on their prices. Note down the models/lowest price quoted (ask about delivery too - into your house & not at the apartment basement) and compare across 2 or 3 stores. Watch out the newspapers - Times Of India is the best in this regard - for the various sale offerenings which should help you decide.
Hope this info helps

Thanks Everyone! Great tips...am going to check them out and see what one can find. I have been into Home Town, but did not want to just jump out and buy everything and find out later I could have saved half
Curious...what is up with the THIN mattresses? I mean...do they hold up? Are they comfy? I am used to seeing the thicker mattress with a boxspring set underneath...have yet to see that here. Also, fitted sheets?? Anyone know where those can be found? Flat sheets only is all I have found to this point.
Thanks again guys - super info!

Dun think you wud get the box beds (spring beds) here. The standard fashion is to buy a wooden frame/cot & put a matress on top of it. You get thicker variety of mattresses (upto 12 inches) and they are pretty comfy
Do not forget to bargain when you are buying furnishings, furniture which do not come with a fixed printed price.

I just bought a bunch of appliances at Griha Vibhava (Jayangar) for a great deal. I'm also NOT on an ex-pat salary so I couldn't afford to pay heaps.
I got a fridge, washing machine, an actual oven, water purifier and an blender/food processor for about 70K RS.

If anyone knows of stores near whitefield, please let me know as well.
