Mayong is around an hours drive from Guwahati. At one point of time the village used to be know for its black magic but now the art is no more practiced and there are only two or three elders who practice. It' actually more of hypnotism rather than black magic. Even otherwise the village as such is very pretty and worth visiting.

But you will need to go with somebody who knows the villagers and the people who perform black magic.

Some time back we had visited an Wild Life Sanctuary called "Pabitora Sanctuary" in Assam. This particular sanctuary is famous for its Indian one-horned Rhino population. It shelters highest density of Indian rhinos in the world. This place is appox 50 KM away from Guwahati, journey time is 1-1/2 hour. While travelling to this Sanctuary from Guwahati, we came across a village called "Mayang" and the Driver told us many stories pertaining to black magic etc. When we expressed our desire to explore the village, the Driver looked to be damn scared and flatly refused to do so. In fact, he spade away the place in a whiff!! He avoided all our questions and asked us to forget the place. Even today, I really do not know the reason for his peculiar behavior.
