Hi all,
I am planning to visit Kamakhya devi temple on 2 july this yr. I want advise on the following:

1. The climb- how long/tiresome/steep is the climb? I am accompanied by a relative who has difficulty in walking.

2. Time: what time should we go for the darshan? how long does it take on an average, for the guwahati-temple-guwahati run including the darshan.

3. Stay: any good budget options for the ease of darshan.

thanks in advance.

hi,
the hill on top of which kamakhya is situated is quite steep, and won't be easy to climb especially if you're having problems in walking. However, shared taxis are easily available from the base of the hill and are quite cheap (around Rs. 10-20)
A day should be enough in other times of the year. However, since it is the time of ambubachi mela, you'll need to start early in the morning, I'm guessing the second part since I've not been there at the time of Ambubachi.
Lot of budget hotels easily available near the railway station in paltan bazar area and you shouldn't have trouble finding accomodation. But it is always better to pre book your hotel.
Have fun.

Sorry for late reply Anurag. As crewger has already covered most points, I'll just add something more:-

1)You need not climb all the way up to the temple from the base. Shared taxi's/Buses are available easily at the base to take you uptil the Temple. You can also book a cab for entire day which will take you to the temple and other places of attraction. However, once you reach the temple, there are around 100 steps to climb. These are broad steps and not too steep in height. Your relative can take a few steps at a time and then relax at any of the prasad selling shops along the steps.

2) Since 2nd July is Monday, you should not find too much rush at the temple. Generally it takes around 1.5-2 hours to complete the darshan. It takes around 45 minutes to reach the temple from Paltan Bazar area which is adjacent to the Guwahati Railway station and most hotels are also located in this area.

3) If you are coming by Train, just disembark it and go towards the Paltan bazar area which is just towards the right hand side of the station. There are many budget hotels near the Paltan bazar police station.

Please feel free to ask if you have any other queries.

The Kamakhya Devi official website states the following timings: Morning 8 to 13:30. Afternoon 14:30 to 17:30.

To avoid rush, better to visit in the afternoon.
