Travel advice for Tawang

Hi Guys,
I am interested in visiting tawang during jun/july,09.i have few questions about this.
i)Is this the right season.will it rain enough to dampen my spirits?.
ii)i travelling alone and approached a travel agency for quote.they have provided a quote of 51,000 for 10 days covering tawang, dirang, shillong, cherrap unji. They say its high because i am renting a tata sumo all for myself.it ok i understand the logic.but is it that high.by the way the deal includes food, accomodation,ILP.Is it a fair deal.
iii)if i travel alone, how do i get the ILP.the main question is how long will it take.i dont want to wait for three days in assam to get this permit.

51K is a joke. Big joke.

1. ILP can be obtained very easily from Guwahati. I can't recall what office is it, but that should not be hard to find; just walk in and apply for the permit. I know people had no trouble earlier. Even if you do have problems, ask a local travel agent to get it done for you.

2. The standard vehicle hire rates in the North-East is Rs.1,500.00 per day for a vehicle. Over that you pay for fuel. So if you travel 300km in a day(you will rarely make more than that), it would cost you may be Rs.1,200.00 for it. But there will be idle days when you will barely travel 50kms. No one every pays more than Rs.1,500.00

3. A good practice would be to get your permits, get to Tezpur and ask for a vehicle only. If possible book your acco in Tawang, as there is not much choice. 10 days should not cost more than 30K IMO.

Good Advice !

Tezpur has a big Sumo Union and the rate is Rs. 1500 perday + fuel, fuel cost is high as you don't get more than 6-7 KMs/Litre.
