Looking for comments for Arunachal Pradesh itinerary
Am hoping someone familiar with Arunachal Pradesh will comment on this itinerary and if you think it includes the important sites and is well-paced. I am interested in tribal villages, archaeological sites and staying in heritage properties like tea estates. Am planning on January or Feb. 2011 and will have a car/driver.
Day 1. Fly from Delhi to Guwahati - transfer to Nameri National Park for birding
Day 2 Ziro - long drive to Ziro
Day 3 Ziro - visit museum, tribal villages, local market
Day 4 Drive Ziro to Tezpur (long drive)
Day 5 Explore Tezpur, in afternoon drive to Kaziranga
Day 6 Kaziranga National Park - explore by elephant in the morning; by jeep in the afternoon
Day 7 Drive to Dibrugarh - visiting Sivasager in route
Day 8 Dibrugarh -- tea tour, visit Tai Phakial village and temple
Day 9 Dibrugarh to Wakro; enroute visit tribal village.
Day 10 Wakro - visit local tribal villages and Parasuramkund pilgrimage site
Day 11 Wakro to Roing visiting villages enroute
Day 12 Roing - visit Mayodia Pass
Day 13 Roing to Dibrugarh - return to Dibrugarh, including ferry crossing. Visit local market, temple and weaving center
Day 14 fly Dibrugarh to Delhi
Thank you for your advice and help!

Journey far.....
Walk in Peace.
Hi pinkyparker,
Your journey looks exhilarating! But I am concerned that you are zig-zagging quite a bit, especially at the beginning. Nameri to Ziro then back down to Tezpur? These are very long drives. Since you are going all the way to Ziro (one of my favourite places in Arunachal Pradesh by the way!) you will have to go via Itanagar, no? Since you wrote that you are interested in museums, it would be worthwhile stopping one night in Itanagar in order to visit the wonderful museum there. (Really a highlight of our trip last year.)
I am not familiar at all with Wakro in Lohit in the far east of AP. It seems to be next to Namdapa National Park. Which would also be worthwhile staying there to see properly.
Roing is far away in the North East of A.P.
Basically, then, you are planning on seeing the Apatani villages of Ziro; then skipping the whole of the Adi area of Siang Provinces, and whizzing across to the far east of A.P. My question is why skip over such a large chunk of fascinating places?
If time constraints are there, as they probably will be, I am also concerned that your itinerary is so packed. That boat trip at the end of your journey is an all-day affair. Bear in mind also that the roads of Arunachal Pradesh are very bad and you will be exhausted. Choose fewer places and go more in depth in them would be my suggestion.
Looking forward to hearing all about it and your trip report later.

theyamdancer: I appreciate your advice and will ask the company to extend the itinerary with your recommendations. Will re-post when I have more information. It may take a few weeks as I am planning so far ahead.
