Ks bluechip,

Great post and very useful information. Your blog is very good and with interesting details and pictures. In number 14 (trip to Tawang) you don't mention tribal villages. did you visited any tribal villages in the area????? I'm interested in tribal people and is probably the main reason to travel to this area as well as the other journey through Ziro - Daporijo - Alang ...

theyyamdancer,

Unfortunately something is wrong in my PC because cannot see the video from Mechuka.

One simple question: Do you thing that traveling by your own (that means not with a travel agent) you'll be able to find the most interesting tribal villages, see ther most scenic sites etc., etc.???????????

I'm not too fond to move with guides, is expensive and very often absolutely useless and even I have the impression that I'm loosing the initiative and a certain privacy...., the way I'm explaining is a bit confused, but probably you know what I'm talking about. I have also the idea in mind to get only the permission through the travel agent and travel by my own (complicated because I'm not a group of two).

Jorge, you read my mind. My idea thus far is to get the RAP from a travel agent. Then to go it alone. (Excepting for the Tawang part of the trip for which we are already in a group and committed, and quite happy about it.) I am gathering information left right and centre but ultimately I don't want any agent "putting on a show" by getting some members of the Adi out of their Levis and into their warpaint just for the tourists!

Don't lose heart because you are alone. Check out Mike-in-Cairns who has recently travelled to Tawang and to Cherrapungee on his own. (He obtained his RAP in Australia at the Embassy; lucky him! I cannot rely on the Indian Consulate in Athens... likewise you find the one in Madrid a bit hopeless.)

It is apparently true that the rules have changed very recently and the Indian Government is trying to encourage tourists, both domestic and foreign, to travel to AP.

Jorge, I am sending you a PM.
