I have successfully finished the trip to Tawang. Contrary to my earlier belief, the trip was easy. Just go to Tezpur and book a seat in Sumo( SUVs plying daily from Tezpur to Tawang and vice-versa) for Rs.550/650. The vehicle start by 6 am and drop us at the Hotel gate by 8pm. Ensure your ILP before hand. We took it at Shillong and costed just Rs.25 each only. Two pp Photographs and photocopy of address proof.

Good time to go. Rains would have just ended, especially the North East monsoons. Roads also should have been made up post-summer rains. Weather will be good, and even in high-altitude places like Tawang, not unpleasantly cold.

There are several places to stay at in all the places.

Need to plan our itinerary

Hi All,
I am planning to visit Tawang during September for a 9-10 days trip with my parents. I have read the IM forums a bit for this trip and now need some help with the itinerary.
We are reaching Tezpur early morning 9-ish, on 5th September. We will be hiring a car there for the trip. So here it goes:
5 Sep: Travel to Bomdilla and stay. Visit the monastery and other places if we have time.
6 Sep: Travel to Tawang and visit Sela pass and Jaswant Garh Memorial on the way.
7 Sep: Madhuri lake and another small lake (PT TSo?) + permission for Bum La
8 Sep: Bum La pass
9 Sep: Visit Zemithang and stay
10 Sep: Come back to Tawang and visit the monastery and local attraction
[Alternatively is it possible to swap the 9 and 10th Sep and travel from Zemithang directly to Bhalukpong???]
11 Sep: Bhalukpong
12 Sep: Nameri camp
13 Sep: Return to Tezpur

As you can see there are several loopholes in the plan.
1. Should we spend the first night in Bhalukpong instead of Bomdiall? Then maybe we can come directly from Zemthang to Bomdilla, during the return trip.
2. Am I rushing things a bit? Should we have one more halt at Dirang on the way to Tawang, maybe?
3. I am not sure if I need two separate days for the Lakes and Bum La in Tawang?
4. I get the impression that it is advisable that you have one buffer day in case of strikes and all. But 11, 12 and 13 September are not making much of a sense. How can I plan this out better?

I hope I get the bookings for the hotels and tourist lodges. And any form of help in the form of peoples name and contact number to hire a car from would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Arnab

We are two persons, me and my husband and we plan to use public transport or shared sumo/zeep. Can anyone of u throw any light on this kinda transport as taking a sumo for 2 persons does not seem an optimum solution to us. But, we are flexible.
My plan is as follows:

4th Oct : Reaching Guwahati Airport at 8-30 AM, Night stay at Bhalukpong
5th Oct : Bhalukpong to Dirang and enroute visit Tipi. Sight-seeing at Dirang, Sangti (12 km from Dirang) and O/N at Dirang
6th Oct : Dirang to Tawang and O\N at Tawang
7th Oct : Sight-seeing at Tawang - P.T.So lake, Sangeet So (Madhuri) lake,Tee gompha, Jang waterfalls, Heart Lake, Bumla Pass
8th Oct : Tawang to Bomdila and O\N at Bomdila
9th Oct : Bomdila to Guwahati
10th Oct : Guwahati to Shillong O\N at Shillong
11th Oct : Shillong sight seeing and O\N at Shillong
12th Oct : Shillong to Guwahati in morning, visit Kamakhya temple and Afternoon (5:40 PM) flight to Kolkata

Was going through the posts and it seems that following the above plan would be hectic. So, I would like keep it flexible and will not like to book the hotels.
My questions are :

1. Will it be possible to get accomodations easily?
2. Will it be possible to reach Bhalukpong before dark considering that we are reaching Guwahati Airport at around 8:30 AM? My plan is to go to Tezpur by Bus, have lunch there and then go to Bhalukpong by shared sumo.
3. Will it be possible to cover Tawang sight seeing (as mentioned in my plan above) in a day. We don't mind a hectic day.
4. Is there anything worthy to see in Bomdila or it just a mandatory night hault?
5. Any suggestion about the Tawang-Guwahati copter service? Will it be safe to take the same? We intend to take the same as it will save 2 days of journey and make our travel less hectic. Is there anyone who have taken the journey by helicopter?

Any suggestion for hotel in Bhalukpong,Tawang and Bomdila? I can understand that 'Pemaling' will be the best option in Dirang but what else in case if it's not available?

Also, is there anyone planning for the trip at the same time?
Plaease give all contact details (if u have) for this trip.

Hi debalinaroy5,
I am not sure for how many days you have planned the tour of guwahati-shillong-bomdila-tawang-nameri-tezpur-guwahati.But if you are planning to cover it in one stretch then its a very bad idea. But still I am giving you an overall idea of this place then you sort it out how you want to proceed with the trip.
day1:In guwahati at 10am reach inner line permit office. submit documents and apply for inner line permit of arunachal pradesh.office is located in peepco bus stopage,guwahati.2 days is required to prepare an inner line permit.documents and passport photos is required while filling the forms for inner line permit.in form mentioned the date on which you will be entering bhalukpong.from that date maximum 5 days is alloted against one name to stay in any district of arunachal pradesh as an tourist.please mentioned places intend to visit as bomdila-dirang-tawang).then after applying visit kamakhya mandir.dont go for general lines or it will take ample amount of time.ask a pandit for the shortest way by buying ticket from the temple committee.after kamakhya go for umananda to the middle of brahamaputra in a boat.evening have relax time in ALFRESON.Its a floating restaurent. It will give round around brahmaputra and have good evening snacs.shopping in and around.
day2:at 11:30am reach the inner line permit office to collect the inner line permit. Then visit ACCO LAND a water theme park near to guwahati airport.evening strolling guwahati or movies in CINEMAX or roaming MALLS specially SOHUM EMPORIA.
day3:At 6:00am start from guwahati to shillong in car.Have breakfast in Woodland Restaurent,Nongpu.Hault in borapani lake for few snaps.reach shillong by 9am.Book decent hotel in City Center Area,Police Bazar,Shiilong. After freshen up local shillong sight seeing.Evening shopping in police bazar.
day4:Have breakfast in police bazar and leave for Cherrapunjee at 6am.Cherrapunjee local sight seeing tour and head back to guwahati.Cherapunjee is in its peak beauty which we call love at first sight in July Month.Till may Month its total dry.Trees,Grasses are dried up.No water in rivers.Water falls are less with water.June-July perfect time to see the mother natures beauty.Any how from cherapunjee reach guwahati at 9pm.
day5:Leave guwahati at 6am and head towards nameri.Hault for few snaps in koliabhumura bridge just before entering tezpur.guwahati to tezpur is 3.5 hours. In tezpur visit Mohabhairav mandir. One of the holy temple of lord shiva.Very sacred temple. From tezpur head towards Nameri.Tezpur to nameri is 2 hours(maximum).By 1pm reach nameri. But the thing is at that time you have nothing to do in nameri.Better in tezpur spend some time by roaming around or visiting bank of brahamaputra.have lunch in balipara and reach nameri by 4pm.Stay in eco camp resort, nameri.Prior booking is required.Awesome place to stay.Food is also excellent.ask manager of eco camp same night only about tracking in jungle/rafting and give them advance money.
day6:at 5am head for tracking in forest with forest guard.return to eco camp at 9am and go for white water rafting with boatman.ask them to carry food.in between the rafting they will hault the boat in some place side by jungle.they will cook food for you.have it.its just like picnik.while they are cooking have a wonderful bath in jia bharali river no one is there to watch miles and miles.you can carry hard drinks with you.no problem.reach eco camp just before dark.night stay in eco camp.Best time to visit nameri is November to February.Migratory birds.Chilling climate.Fog.Bone Fire.In Summers all you will get is Sweat, hot and humid climate.
day7:at 6am head towards bhalukpong.bhalukpong is the entry point of arunachal pradesh.here your Inner Line Permit of each an every member will be check. In bhalukpong dont forget to have breakfast till your neck beacause in way you will not get anything to eat.carry food and water with you since now you are entering hilly area.bhalukpong-tenga valley(naag mandir)-bomdila-dirang.Reach dirang by 2pm.In dirang(hot water spring, shanti valley, yak research center, sheep farm).night stay in dirang.dont stay in bomdila.waste of time.
Day8:head towards tawang.enjoy the road.snaps.(dirang-sela pass-jaswant garg-jung falls-tawang).night stay in tawang.reach tawang by 8pm.
day9:tawang local sight seeing and visit DC office, tawang with documents to prepare PASSES to visit BUM LA PASS(china border),the last point of india.evening shopping.but shop closses at 4pm.In public holiday and sunday office is closed. Not sure about saturday.3 hours required to prepare passes from the DC office, tawang. If the office is closed also there is a way to get the passes but its not wise to disclose in public forum .Better stick to week days for the passes.
day10:with the passes leave tawang at 8:30am towards BUM LA PASS so that you reach there sharp at 11:30am.Before that just before reaching BUM LA PASS have a cup of tea, maggie in Y junction restaurent. At 12:30pm leave BUM LA PASS to reach Y junction again and head towards MADHURI LAKE.Stay there as long as you want to.Going for Madhuri lake before BUM LA PASS is a very bad idea.make sure to reach tawang by 5pm.
day11:Leave tawang at 6am and reach Bomdila.Roam bomdila.Night stay Bomdila.
day12:Leave Bomdila and reach Guwahati by 9pm.In monsoon visiting tawang should be avoided.December 2nd week to January 3rd week should be avoided.
Note:
1.Visiting Cherrapunjee any car will do.Visiting Nameri any car will do.After nameri journey, strictly stick to XYLO,INNOVA or MUV's or you will regret due to condition of the roads.
2.I have covered all the places in different different season/months but never did that like the way you are planning like in one go.
