Could we date it please??
Very nice article by Gaurav Punj.
Took me back to 2005 when I did the Pin Parvati and the Pin Bhaba Passes in a single trekking schedule ("Pin Bhaba"="Wang Khango" of this article).
Gaurav, is it possible to add a date to this event, at least in the "comments" page.
If it has happened in 2007, it means Road transport to the Pin Valley is questionable as of today (30 March 2008). One has to possibly trek on foot for two more days to Attargu. Repairs will not start till June and the Parvati to Mudh crossing may also have a couple of stone-bridge crossings being washed away.
Which means one has to provide two more trekking days till news of "Mudh road links restored" reaches us.
Gaurav, very nice article... Thanks

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
August 2007 is when we had this experience. So I guess, the road might still not be open. Anyone has any updates?

WOW! What an experience! The human spirit is truly indomitable!
'm learning to fly
And I was there in Pin Valley just a couple of weeks before that...
Was there in the third week of July 2007 with a travel mate...
Roamed all over Spiti including Pin Valley...
Not a drop of rain then...
The weather, I guess, always has a major role to play in ones travel plans...!
Cheers...!

kafnu to Pin Valley trek
Hi Gaurav,
Really liked your account of the trek to Pinvalley. I am planning to trek in August from Kafnu into Pin Valley. I was told last time in Spiti that its a 7 day trek...how many days did it take you?
also do you know of any groups from Bombay who might be planning for the same around that time?
Any info is welcome...cheers Sridevi

A good read
I think your article is very informative about the conditions one could expect on this trip. Your English is excellent and your style makes one want to read on.
Dear Gaurav,
Note: Pin valley in Spiti can be reached from Kinnaur via the Pin-bhabha pass or from Kullu via the Pin-parvati pass.
##Great report.
##I request, for less knowledgeable individuals like me, it helps a lot, if you can include the Date & Time also other details like nearest Airport, nearest rail-head(s) etc.

As someone who visited the Spiti region only last week, and having heard about the incident at Pin Valley, i am really glad that all went fine with you and are safe.
Its unfortunate that such incidents dont figure in the mainstream media.
Excellent writeup.

It sounds intense...wish I was there to see it. My trek to Everest Base Camp last year sounds a bit lame in comparison!
