For the Pindari, Kafni, Milam, Sundardunga and Roopkund trek, I strongly recommend Anand as a guide. He is very reliable and will also carry your luggage and charges 300 Rs/Day. He lives in Khati village near Bageshwar and his cell no. is 9410858835.

Please see Post 110 under this thread.Sadanand
Fungus enters into the body of Caterpillar, eats it from inside and then starts growing outwards like a shoot of grass. This caterpillars are normally buried in the soil and only the tip of the fungus can be seen above the ground. It is used as herbal medicine in tibet and china. It's sold at 14 lakh Rs per kg, in black market. It's trade is illegal and police raids are conducted many times in villages around uttarakhand. See the attached pic of Caterpillar Fungus.

Great insights, beautiful pics and amazingly written. Sir, your descriptives reminds me of Corbett writings. Could n't have been better. Sorry for your the unexpected climax in the journey did you made any further attempt thereafter?
Also, after reading your report I would like to know about the budget for the trip and expenses for buying rations for the trek.
Did you bought or hired the necessary equipment through your guide?
Thank you for sharing such an experience.
Riyan
PS: Did the Ukrainian finally made it?

Riyan,
Thanks for your appreciation of my Roopkund Trek Report.
I did not make further attempt for Roopkund. Instead I completed treks to Panchchulli Base Camp (via Darma Valley), Twin-trek of Kuari Pass and Daranasi Pass (Nandadevi outer sanctuary) and twin-trek of Changbang Base camp and Kanari Pass in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively.
For Roopkund trek, we had engaged our regular guide for Kumaon treks with whom did a package deal. If I remember correctly, in 2008, we had settled for Rs.1000/- per head per day (all inclusive ex-Gwaldam). We were two persons. For a larger group, the per head per day cost would have come down.
