Fungus enters into the body of Caterpillar, eats it from inside and then starts growing outwards like a shoot of grass. This caterpillars are normally buried in the soil and only the tip of the fungus can be seen above the ground. It is used as herbal medicine in tibet and china. It's sold at 14 lakh Rs per kg, in black market. It's trade is illegal and police raids are conducted many times in villages around uttarakhand. See the attached pic of Caterpillar Fungus.
