Where is Vizag?
I wrote down this name after hearing some Japanese kids taking about India. Where the heck is this place? Anyone? |

Vishakapatnam
Vishakapatnam is a nice small city on the East coast of India in Andhra Pradesh... There are hardly any tourists there, and some nice places around... the hill-station of Aruku and the Borra caves are a couple of hours away, with some nice waterfalls and good government / private huts, lodges, etc.
Nearer to the city itself there is the beach, the historic town of Bheemili, with some old Dutch Pirates graves and a large church built by the british nearby. The city beach is not pristine, but the beach road IS where all the hotels are and the crowds milling around of an evening are truly Vizag in it's natural state. There is not a traffic problem compared to other places, there are a few nightspots opened in the last 6 months. Byeee...

Vizag is just short for Vishakapatnam, lyndy. That's what probably caused the confusion.
By the way: the English name for Vizag was 'Waltair'. |

Dear RT,
Till a few years ago, Waltair was the name used by South Eastern Railway. Subsequently, the Railway name got changed to Visakhapatnam. ----- Senior Railway employees and retired Railway employees, and even some of the serving Railway employees of SER (now ECoR/SECR too) still use the name ""Waltair"". ===== Even in the logo of Andhra University, you will still find the name Waltair. =========== V.Srinivasa Prasad 4.6.2005/20.10 hrs. |

New pub in Vizag: Chrome-The Pub...all metal and glass ....fantastic place....greatcocktails.
PS: I spent 15 years in Vizag until 1996. Never saw a pub all my life here. Good things happened in my absence.

I'd already done a search on this board, as someone who pm'd me, nicely suggested (am I so dumb that I would not try that first?-maybe I sound terribly dumb!-I don't think I am but I could be terrible wrong!) anyway the search was not conclusive as to where exactly Vizag was, in my humble opinion.
The 2004 Footprint did not mention it either so that's why I posted here. Thanks again to you people who took the trouble to give me straight? answers! ![]() |

So, I take the liberty to be OT. I thought the kids were taking about 'whijagu' (as they'd likely say in katakana). Which I assumed would be some anime character. So, google with 'Japanese vizag' and the first return doesnt point that they were talking about visiting there... I never knew this part of history... 'whijaggu'
