Thanx dude.

I was also looking for the route / routemap to reach Dindi. Would it be a deviation from Rajmundry or Narsapur. Which one is nearer.

Uday,

I suggest you drive from Rajamundhry down to Razole, the nearest town to Dindi. The route is RJY-Kothapeta-Amalapuram-Razole. Quite a scenic route with ample greenery and colour.

You can do it from Narsapur too. But what is the point? Are you planning to drive all the way to Narsapur? No need. You can drive till Palakollu and take the route across the Godavari to Razole.

EDIT NOTE - cross posted with Rangss, good to get confirmation about Dindi.
- - - - - - - - - - -

Most of my reply may not be useful to you, esp. the train info, I've just added it for others who may enter 'Dindi' into the search engine to look for info.

I researched this area as part of a 'mystery tour', and again for my last trip, though I had to change my plans at the last moment and never made it to the area, but hopefully some of the things I learnt might be useful to you.

The easiest way to get to Dindi seems to be to take NH 9 (from Hyderabad) through Vijayawada and on till Pammarri, NH214 starts at Pammarri, but you could just ask the locals for the road to Bhimavaram, NH214 goes though Bhimavaram and on through Palakollu (where you could turn right for the road to Narsapur), NH214 then goes through Dindi and over the bridge and eventually on to Kakinada.

I think Palakollu is pronounced 'Palakol'.

I've read on the net that NH214 is a poor and very busy road, an alternative route would be.....From Vijayawada, go north on NH5 till about 8kms after Tanuku, then there will be a road going to Narsapur (via Penugonda and Palakollu), at Palakollu take NH214 to Dindi.

When I first read about the houseboats, I also read about the government guesthouse (I have their telephone number somewhere) being built in Dindi, when I enquired on an Andhra forum I was told the guesthouse was being built next to where the houseboats would be launched, and this was right next to the bridge over the Vasista Godavari river on 214 (I'm sure they said the bridge goes over to Razole).

How did you book the houseboat? (6, 12 or 23 hours?)

Where will you be staying?

When are you going?

The monsoon must be due to reach the Godavari Delta soon, surely the houseboats don't operate during the monsoon????

You don't mention anything you're interested in, the area seems to have a lot of options.

Beaches - Perupalem beach is about 18kms south-east of Narsapur, Manginapudi Beach is a little further (about 50kms), but the beach is said to be wonderful, it's about 11kms north-east of Machilipatnam (also has overnight trains to the same 3 places mentioned at the bottom of this reply).

Wildlife parks/sanctuaries - Coringa, Kolleru, or even Papikonda if you drove home via Bhadrachalam and Khammam (this way you could take a boat ride to see the gorges in the area, said to be amazing)

Also consider Yanam, part of Pondicherry, I've no idea what it's like or how much Influence the French had on the territory, but it could be interesting and it's a short drive from Dindi. (plans have just been announced to build a 100 metre replica of the Eiffel Tower in Yanam, but it wont be completed till this time next year.)

Maps - I've got access to many maps (9) for the region and no 2 maps agree about the roads in the area, Dindi isn't on any of them, the Eicher 'India Road Atlas' (Rs370) seems closest to the old accurate maps and Google Earth, though the Eicher makes the road from Palakollu to Dindi look straight and easy, I somehow doubt it will be this way.

Good luck, and please, please come back and tell us all how the trip goes, especially the house boat, I've wanted to try the house boat from the day I first saw it on the net.

Can I just remind you that all of the above is from research over the years and the info may not be 100% accurate.

For those interested in the area, there is a book by Paul Hyland called 'Indian Balm', most of the book is about time Paul spent in Narsapur and the surrounding areas.

Train info from Hyderabad, Chennai and Vishakhapatnam.

Train 7256 departs Hyderabad daily at 21:45 and gets to Palakollu at 08:00.

1A = Rs 1286
2A = Rs 751
3A = Rs 540
SL = Rs 203

And the return train....

Train 7255 departs Palakollu daily at 19:00 and gets to Hyderabad at 05:25.

There are also (in both directions) overnight trains between Chennai Central and Bhimavaram Town (Circar Exp. 2A, 3A, SL.), and slow overnight passenger trains between Vishakhapatnam and Palakollu. (Sleeper Class only)

Wink

Steven,

Are you going this year to: Bhadrachalam-Rajahmundry-Pallakollu-Dindi...???

I have already booked my ticket to Mumbaifor 7th October..., I'll stay ten days in Chhattisgarh to see the tribal festival (Dusshera)
in Jagdalpur on 21st and on 23 or 24th Oct. will be in Bhadrachalam
boating to Paikondallu-Rajahmundry and afterwards to Konaseema area
staying most probably three or four days in Amalapuram or may be in Dindi.

Two weeks ago I found some Konaseema's pictures on the net:

Have contacted the man via email just to know from where he took the pics and the best places to visit in the area.

Rangss,
Thanks for the pictures. The area seems a blend between West Bengal and Kerala. I can't wait to be there.

Steven,

I think Dindi is not a village is only a site.
