Trimulgherry Cantonment Cemetery

Would anyone living in Hyderabad/Secunderabad be prepared to take a few photos for me in the above cemetery?

I live in Bangalore and in one of the churches here there is a plaque commemorating soldiers from the Black Watch and Seaforth Highlanders who lost their lives in a train accident at Yemaras in 1917.

I have the grave references for the men concerned.

Many thanks

Yemaras - where is it?

I am presuming Yemaras is in Andhra as a number of WW1 soldiers, buried in the cant cemetery at Trimulgherry, lost their lives in a train crash there in 1917. But for the life of me I can't locate the place. Can anyone help please?

One Yermaras is near Raichur very close to Andhra Pradesh border.Raichur is 4 hours drive by bus from Hyderabad. You can find Yermarus after crossing Krishna River bridge which natural boarer between A.P and Karnataka. If you r going by train from Hyderabad, Yermaras station comes after Krishna station.

Well they're certainly buried at Trimulgherry but there is a plaque in St Andrews Church, Bangalore commemorating the men. They were on leave at the time and my guess is that they were killed on their way back to where their regiments were stationed at Bangalore. Trimulgherry though, would have been the nearest Cant cemetery.

You've been very helpful though, even if you did attribute the wrong gender to me.

Yermarus is about 7-8 km ahead of Raichur on the Wadi-Renigunta line. Highly likely that the train accident took place here than any other Yermarus anywhere. This was the only way to travel by train from Secunderabad to Bangalore back then.

I wont be able to help as I am not in Hyd now, but i thought I would share my experience

I once tried to locate a grave in the Trimulgherry cemetary.

It took me to this location http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...wloc=addr&om=0

The green patch below the road intersecting is a current cemetary. the green square patch north of the road is an older cemetary. The soldier who was maintaining a book at the gate told me that the older cemetary was not in use and these two cemetaris are just two of a higher number of cemetaries in the area looked after by the army and a local church. I was told to contact a church in bolaram if I wanted records of older graves (I was trying to loccate one from 1951). I hope you have better directions

Thanks JPVS (and belated thanks too to rangss; I've only just seen your response). Yes, I went to one of the cemeteries there a while back and took some photos of old graves. I got the impression then that without a reference it must be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Oh well, if I make it a little further north I'll see if I can track the graves down myself.
