Tirupati

Any non-indians been to Tirupati lately? How were you recieved? Were you allowed in the temple? Did you have to sign a profession of faith? Anything else there that is a must see?
Thanks in advance.

Depending on time, you have lots of things to see.
Papanashanam, Akasaganga, and other thirthams, all the holy water springs etc.
There is a stone arc called Shilatoranam (a natural formation), Also there is small hike to the near by hills to see the foot prints of lord venkateshwara. All these on the Tirumala Hills.
Near Tirupathi (down hills), Chandragiri fort, Srinivasa Mangapuram (different from Tiruchanur - Alamelu Mangapuram), and Narayanvanam are worth the visit.
Here is TTDs website.

My wife is from Andhra so we went there shortly after our wedding last February. We did a special puja for couples which was quite nice.

The most memorable part of the visit was walking barefoot about 10k from the base of the hill to the temple. It's a very common thing to do and even starting at 4am it's a very busy trail.

I was in Tirumala last February. Had to show my passport and pay 100 rups. Took me about 2 hours of waiting time altogether, which is pretty fast, until darshan. Short pants not allowed and yes non-Hindus have to sign a declaration, no big deal. Nice crowd, good feeling, everybody chanting "Goooooovinda". I dug (old fashioned slang) it immensely.

We have just returned to Hyderabad after three glorious days in Tirupati!! tirumala is a wondeful place with a great energy. We had no troubles and the proclomation was worded very graciously and I had no reservations in signing it. The Balaji temple?Darshan process was crowded, long, hot and honestly a little over-rated. By the time we got in front of the God we were tossled about by the guards so quickly that you couldn't even focus on him. The highlights were the other temples, the light show at an old fort, the zoo and generally just enjoying a lovely city. I saw no other tourists, so the prices were great. There is a handicraft village there that was 1/3 the cost of the Hyderabad Shilpa Ram handicraft market. If anyone is interested on heading to Tirupati I would be happy to expand on any of these issues.

I lived for quite some time in Tirupathi.
I got married in Tirupathi and my first one was born in Tirupathi.
In India, for any day Tirupathi (I mean Tirumala and hills too) is first for me.
So my opinion will be certainly biased.

Dear Ranganath,
I made it a point to visit once in a year and if an opportunity comes, more than once.
-------
I normally finish the uphill trekking within 2Hrs.15 minutes and get down in 90 minutes.
-------
Next time I have to do it within 2hrs.5 minutes, because recently my friend finished this within 2hrs.10 minutes.

Can you go inside the main temple also if you don't want to have Darshan, avoiding the long line?
