Taj Mahal Hotel, Hyderabad - How to Book Hotel Room?

Re: Taj Mahal Hotel on King Kothi Road
Abids area, Hyderabad

E-mailed the Taj Mahal Hotel at sundertaj@satyan.net.in but the e-mail did not go through.

Telephoned the Taj Mahal Hotel a 011 91 40 247-58250
but got a recording that I can barely understand, the number is no longer working.

How can I book a double room at the Taj Mahal Hoel on King Kothi Road in
Hyderabad for February 15, 2008 for 5 nights. We arrive around midnight.

Thank you!

I just tried that number (Hyderabad 247-58250) and it works, and it is the Taj Mahal hotel.

PS: Maybe you made the call at some odd hour (in India) when they may have had an answering machine on?

Talking

Thank you. I did call the Taj Mahal about 1:30 p.m.

However, in the meantime, I got an e-mail from hotelsales@savion.com
and they are offering a double room at $50 inclusive of taxes per night.

Any good comments about the Taj Mahal hotel?

We are budget travelers and location of hotel is important.

What about Hotel Jaya International?

Thanks again!

I don't know anybody who has staye at either of these hotels, but that doesnt mean much.

Look at Yatri Nivas, its 12/1500 rupee range , and though I have never stayed in it, folks who have seem to think its good value for money.

The address is on this site somewhere.

I'm giving them a call tomorrow.

We'll be asking for something nearer the Rs12 end of that scale!

Yatra Niwas vs Taj Mahal in Abids area
Which is the better location for shopping and restaurants?

We like to walk out of the hotel and be in the midst of the action.
We will book a car for the tour of the city.

Thank you

I liked Abids but I would mention it is crowded and noisy and a little close to communal issues. A book store down there offerred excellent works but has since gone popular commercial. Still, its a good base for sari shopping. I go to Pochempali direct for that variety. I go to an area near Paradise for pearls..

Abids stopped being the center of the city sometime ago, for shopping or otherwise. But yes, its still got a lot of shops, and a lot of crowd.

Yatri Nivas is kind of standalone, for action you have to walk ten minutes or a two minute autorickshaw ride, RP Road or MG Road Secunderabad. It is a quieter place, though it has its own bar, and a few resteraunts.

I always stay in Abids. Some of the best shopping is in the bazaar around Charminar ... a short ride away.

Hyderabad or Secunderabad

Abids is in Hyderabad. Yatri Nivas is closer to Secunderabad. If Arriving by train, get down at Hyderabad station for Taj Mahal hotel in Abids. (BTW, there are many Taj Mahal hotels in Hyderabad).

Abids Taj is slightly older. May need maintenance. But should be OK. Same with Yatri Nivas. Never needed to stay in either of these places since I am local. Both are budget hotels.

If your aim is more of shopping, recommend the Taj Mahal.
