NRI questions about Apartments & Living in Hyderabad

Hi everyone,

I am a 26 year old female and am moving to Hyderabad for 7-12 months for a job. The office is in West Marredpally. I want to rent a flat with 1 or 2 other girls. I was told that if I want an area with lots of restaurants/bars, I should live in Banjara Hills. But that is 30-45 minutes from the office. Here are a few questions that I have. Your help is much appreciated!

-Does West Marredpally have a nightlife (bars, restaurants, hookah bars)? Or is that only in Banjara Hills?

-How much would an auto ride form BH to WM cost? Is there a train I could take?

-How much would rent be in both areas?

-How can I find roommates?

-Is there a place that most expats or NRIs visit and hangout?

Thanks again for your help!

No, but areas close have. The best however are in BH.

No train, best to stay in WM itself. Auto should cost about 100 or more.

Depends on what kind of place and a lot of other factors. BH is more expensive among the two.

How can I find roommates?
Workplace, contacts, may be craigslist/classifieds if you are lucky. Unless you know someone well not advised to share.

Most of the malls/pubs in BH are a good place. Will obviously have a mix of locals+expats with more locals there.

Thanks for the reply! Your information really helped me out. What about areas in Begumpet? From my research, it seems like it is not too far from WM and has a bit of a nightlife. Thoughts?

Begumpet is good too and has much better night life (read pubs etc) than WM, but is also more expensive. Its not too far, about 2km max. But staying in Begumpet will put you in closer proximity to the other happening places in BH/Ameerpet/Punjagutta/Jubilee Hills.

So if night life is very important, go for Begumpet.

Can be more than an hour, depending on where in WM and where in BHills.

Just expanding a bit: Begumpet starts at the old airport which is perhaps 3/4KM from WM and then continues for another 3/4 kilometers, ending up 1/2k from Banjara Hills. Rentals can vary widely, depending.

If commute time/cost/headache is not an issue, Begumpet. Else WM, is my opinion. Also, I would land up, stay a fortnight or so in temporary accomodation and look around. Some of these areas can be quite crowded and noisy; location is everything.

Thanks,

I know Begumpet is quite a large area. From my research, if I stay in a place like Prakash Nagar, it is 10 minz from WM and is metropolitan.

Do people take Bus transport from place to place? The Map shows bus stops. How much does this cost?

Also, does anybody have any good tips on which sites to use to find a roommate? I've looked on easy roommate india, magic bricks, and sulekha already.

Again, thanks for your help!

if your work place is in WM, consider mahendra hills which is very close and pretty decent area but very few expats.

Speak with the HR of the work place and request introduction to other female employees of the same age group & professional skills - they may be able to guide you about finding a flat in a convenient area to share with other females.

Are you of Indian origin?

Cheers

PS: added later: Sorry, I didn't notice that your title said NRI !

I am of Indian origin. The workplace is quite small and they don't know of any females looking for a roommate at the moment.

Of course people do, and this will be very cheap. Perhaps ten or twenty rupees both ways, guessing.
But travelling in a city bus during rush hour will take some getting used to.

Prakash nagar is not really the centre for either expats or after work entertainment. I think you may be better off either staying in WM or in Somajiguda/Begumpet closer to Banjara Hills/Banjara Hills, where most of the after work stuff is.

If after work stuff is mainly weekends, I would stay in WM or closeby in Secunderabad.

Coming from Mumbai, renting out isnt that difficult in Hyd. In terms of Night LIfe, I second all responses from the forum members here... but owning a vehicle is a must if you want the flexibility of moving around at your own time.... my choice would be to settle down somewhere close to your workplace and invest in a vehicle.. almost all destinations that i know, are within an hours drive from the city.... the roads are really awesome here ..

"Does West Marredpally have a nightlife (bars, restaurants, hookah bars)? Or is that only in Banjara Hills?"

West Marredpally is a pure residential area, so bars, resturants, hookah bars you dont find, You find the night life in Banjara hills and Begumpet(Bottle and chimmneys, Life style building)

"How much would an auto ride form BH to WM cost? Is there a train I could take?"

It depends on how well you can bargain with Auto drivers, if you hire on meter basis then it shouldn't cost you more than 60/- rupees and if its late night after 10:30 or 11 Pm then the tariff changes but yes it shouldn't cost more than 100/-

"How much would rent be in both areas?"
in West Marredpally you can get Double bed room flat for 8000/+
in Begumpet also more or less 10,000/-
But banjara hills it depends on the amenities.

Is there a place that most expats or NRIs visit and hangout?""
Bottle and chimmneys in Prakash Nagar, Taj Banjara in Banajara Hills etc your self know about that once you visist hyderabad......
