need a used A.C. unit
Friend of mine who's not on IndiaMike (but should be!) asked that I post a question about finding a used a.c. unit. I haven't seen any in the classifieds. Is this something people usually sell when moving or do they usually leave in the flat?

You can also explore the option of renting an AC but in my personal opinion the amount you pay out over a period of a year will be 80% the cost of buying one yourself...so long term it does not make sense.
Have you checked out the online classifieds?? ebay.in kijiji.com craiglist india rediff classifieds... Secondhand Ac's are listed quite regularly, in fact i have sold all my previous ones through the net itself... |

Sitting here surrounded by Samsung AC units (although I'll only use the bedroom one in the night)...
I believe there is a market in locally-made but not famous-brand units, which will be much cheaper than the big-name stuff. Your friend might investigate this before going for something that may well be noisy and inefficient in the second-hand market. Some sort of warranty is really worthwhile; having to buy a new compressor for a second-hand unit would be sure to cause regret at not having bought new. Buyer Beware!

I advise against renting the equipment, they are anyways old units and will consume the same amount of electricity as the old unit you might purchase.
Secondly the rent for a year is almost equal to the cost you will pay for the old unit. |

There is a market, infact a big one atleast in North India. But the issue is that some of these local brands have become as expensive , in some cases even more expensive than the Samsung's and the Lg's of the world..
I scouted around for one while buying our last AC in 2008 and was not impressed much.. One local brand doing well is Napoleon.. |

Napoleon is quite famous in the market. Another one is Azure. The rates are not different from Samsung or LG, however people still go for these smaller brands. They are getting quite efficient as well..

Plus local brands like Napolean etc carry a warranty as well giving you peace of mind from that angle as well... dont know about their customer service though.... LG and Samsung have impressed me everytime with theirs..
