Lodging restrictions in Srisailam

This thing is really the most unbelievable I´ve ever seen in India. I arrived yesterday night in Srisailam and thnaks god that time a local pelgrim arranged a room for us both. But this morning I decided to find a room for myself. I looked in all different places and nobody could even answer my question is this because I´m a westener and i don´t belong to one of their crappy Castes!!?? Why aren't they talking to me!!!!???

So I went to an upper class hotel and aslek them if anyone speaks english. The reception guy told me that it is prohibited to rent rooms alone in all of srisailam as there are too many temple hookers around there. I asked more about the temple hookers, but suddenly they changed subject to the suicide people commit in this place. Well I couldn't believe it!! So many rules. The hotel staff was very friendly though and they provided me the information i needed. I had to go to police station and get a permission. I went there and the inspector was asking me too many questions, about what i was doing and why i visited India. So I made a bullshit story about me loving to travel around india and that i am so interested in this lovely country, bla bla bla. After 1 hour of talking and asking everything possible including explaination for all the visa's I have in my passport and why my passport is issued in Tehran. He phoned the central logding office and ordered me to stay in a room alone. Now Finally I stay in a nice room for only 100 Rs. That is worth the trouble.

So for lone tourists willing to be in Srisailam. Be warned and go to police station first.

In a few temple towns they dont allow couples in a single room unless they are sure they are married. I have seen an unmarried couple go around for lodging and were not given a room.
It's a very embarassing thing for them when room is outrightly rejected on their face in front of all the people standing.
Ofcourse they do it because there are people who misuse things in a holy place and use the room for their personal pleasures.

I remember going to Guruvayur alone a few years ago to attend a friends wedding - I had reached there the day before and had to try at least 4-5 places before I finally got a room. And yes, just like OP mentioned, one of those guys at the front desk told me that he cant take the chance that I might commit suicide.
I am sure I didnt look like someone about to commit suicide!

Later on I heard that in Guruvayur and many such temple towns, hotels avoid single guests and suspicious couples (!!) .

An even simpler explanation could be that hotels need some kind of permit to accommodate foreigners. It's conceivable that there are places where no such hotels exist (although I found in those cases you'd normally be accommodated anyway. But maybe combined with the mentioned reasons they didn't here. I know of places popular with newly-weds which would attract an adjacent crowd with rooms having a, um, high turnover rate shall we say.)

Probably not no. I'm also not sure if I get you here: If you're saying they didn't speak English, maybe it was because they didn't speak English?

Srisailam is a beautiful temple, with many choutries, dont know about the tarts.

My visit there was by bus from Kalastri, where I got a running commentary from the bus conductor , looking out for wild animals en route, and showing points of interest.

When the bus arrived he took me to lodgings, and then a visit round the temple, he knew all the dodges to get to the inner sanctum as he went to pray whenever the bus got there, so knew all the bramins, we got to the front of the queue for darshan.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the kindness of Indians.

Unforgettable

They did speak english once I came back from the police station. They were just terribly rude. It seems the staff don't know anything about tourist service or something. But at least the room is quite big and clean and comfortable for just 100 Rs the night. That makes things good again.

Srisailam is the Only Place in AP (Andhra Pradesh), where you can find Hotels( Sathrams in Telugu) are caste basis. Each Andhra Caste got a Sathram in Srisailam. Because, the tradition is coming since centuries. Even I don't know Why Like This?...............
