Kakinada hotels and sights

I'll be travelling from Chennai to Kolkata up the East Coast in August.
I wondered if anyone knows anything about Kakinada, hotels, sights etc. I'm on a budget, and the only hotels I can find, are really expensive,1200 rupees.
Are there budget places around, and what's the local beach like?.

hey kakinada is asmall port town in andhra pradesh. there are hotels in the town centre ranging from 300 to 2000 maximum. the local beach is full of fishing boats and it is not so beautifull. if you are stying in kakinada i suggest you to explore the whole district which is known as andhra kerala.try to take aboat ride to papikondalu in the godavari and try visting antarvedi too. yanam near kakinada is a small beach place which looks beautifull

Thanks Candyrox. There's very little information on the web at all. Must be because it's not "amazing", just lovely. I'll probably stay a day or so, and then go up to Bubaneshwar. Thanks again.

Thanx Raj and Krish, I'll check out the link.
I figure there must be a few things to see. I'm not really a beach person, but the fishing culture is always interesting.
There are temples, a wildlife sanctuary, and a thriving fishing village. Also a Mangrove rehabilitation project. I'm there.

Palerider, there's the archaeological museum and research institute in Kakinada which is the repository for the palm leaf manuscripts.
Here's a link, which lists other museums in AP as well:

I haven't been to this one yet, but was thinking about visiting there in October. If you do go there would you please post about it.

Here's another link giving address and opening hours.

Also, if you're heading up the coast to Kolkata, Srikakulam is an interesting place with the silver Surya temple in 5km away in Arasavalli, another temple next to that in Srikakulam, the Buddhist ruins at Salihundum (great views) and Kalingapatnam beach is about 8 km away .... nice clean beach with decent surf.
