Hi Ed,

{hope this is not seen as a thread hijack}...

the second case involves culpability that the "victim" doesn't seem to be willing to face up to. <snip> I sympathize more with the aggrieved customer than the conspirator.
I can't fault the comments there - and I too concur that the OP on this page was certainly not a party to an intent to obtain property by deception or stealth and therefore, more likely to gain support for her cause/request.

Ditto. And I am still speechless about the level of the scam.

To borrow the oft used phrase of Messr. Hannum (not P.T. Barnum), "there's a sucker born every minute".

Cheers

I'm impressed with your tenacity and the methods of following up.

Now, if only the Swedish lady who lost EU30,000 in her gem scam could do the same...

At first, I am not Swedish, but German
Why haven't I followed up with my post? Because the post was closed. I sent a request to IndianMike's team if I can open a new post on the same topic but didn't receive an answer. Thats why I haven't been showing up.

Zoltan, as I had mentioned english is not my native language. What exactly do you mean with " certainly not a party to an intent to obtain property by deception or stealth and therefore, more likely to gain support for her cause/request."

Maybe I got it wrong, but I have neither posted my story so people sympathize with me nor to get help. All I wanted to do was describe in detail, how these people work, and that, one coming into a similar situation, may remember my post and how clever and well every little detail is planned and organised. But I thank everyone for the good words, I really do from my heart.

Currently I will avoid posting here, because everyone (meaning also the scammers) can read this. I hope you do understand it. If anyone is interested please send me a mail. The email adress in my last post was wrong but it should be possible now to send me a mail via IndianMike. All I can say is I don't want to be watching without intervening!

Apologies for the mix-up of country of origin. Mea culpa.

The comment about property by stealth /deception is because I had the same scam pulled on me when I was visiting Agra. Although in that case, it wasn't gems, it was carpets.

I smelled a rat (I could use a more callous term) and knew that I had to be on my guard.

The scammer told me that it's illegal for him to send carpets overseas and therefore, if I could help him avoid the paying of taxes and circumvent the laws of his country, then I could be a rich man in my own country.

He showed me a folder *full* of photocopies of peoples passports who had also fallen prey to his schemes. I knew that he was a professional scammer who believed I was just another sucker that would be reeled in with his offers of making big money by taking a small risk.

I made an excuse by saying that I was leaving tomorrow and that I'd spent all my money. He & his friends asked me if I had a credit card or debit card - the pressure was on to make a "deal" and they weren't going to relent.

I got out without losing anything - they had brought for me 2 longnecks of kingfisher and wasted their time.

So, my earlier comments (as from my own experience), were that I had been told that it was illegal and, that I was going to undertake a small risk to make big money.

I do feel for your (financial) loss and would also maintain that you make a full report to the police but don't give too much information on a public forum which could leave this web-site open a libel case (no matter how remote the chances are, I think the mods have to cover themselves against such risks).

Hope this clarifies things.

I also understood your original thread of wanting to highlight peoples awareness but I still maintain that as you have details of the "alleged" perpetrators, contact the police and take things further.

Cheers

I think you have probably sent the request to Nadreg. Give him a little time.
