Can anyone tell me what this is?

Today I rode out to near Golconda and took Neknampur road west; it runs east-west between the Qutub Shahi tombs and Golconda. About a kilometer west of Qutub Shahi I found this:

I rode up to it, and it seems to be a tomb. Can anyone identify it? A couple of minutes googling around didn't turn anything up...

Google map with placemark here

sorry zorts, no idea... though if you're into that kind of thing i'd recommend the paigah tombs... south of the river, in santosh nagar - near the apollo hospital, if i remember correctly.

No idea. I am losing all these games

Perhaps you should've asked some local guys if there were any, around there.

I tried; there WEREN'T many (this is really out in the sticks...), and my lack of Telegu or Hindi made it impossible.

Have you been there, and can you be more specific? Googling Piagah tombs generates lots of hits, but no clear directions. The best I've found is from this blog, and even that contains a bit of a cautionary note:
Quote:
The Paigah Tombs complex is a little known necropolis lying behind the Santosh Nagar police station, amidst a warren of houses and lanes in an obscure locality known as Phisalbanda (Phisal - Slide, Banda -Rock)...
...After quite a bit of looking around, and after losing myself in the catacomb of colonies that have sprung up around the Tombs, I finally located the place.
It looks like a difficult bike ride from Banjara Hills; I may have to break down and be motorized.

Raymonds tomb, too.
Michel Joachim Marie Raymond - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Again, motorisation required.

A 1805 AD map of Hyderabad doesn't show this.
The tomb of Michel Joachim Raymond became the venue for strange syncretic rituals till it was destroyed by vandals in 2002.

My experience in India has given me a healthy skepticism for what maps do and do not tell you.

I would really appreciate if the maps carry the instruction for properly folding them, a very difficult task.

yes, i've been. it's easy to find - take the road off the southern inner ring road that is just opposite the medical college and apollo hospital. (there is a sign for paigah tombs here.) since you seem to like your google earth, here are the exact co-ordinates:

17°20'37.51"N
78°30'13.17"E

it just looks like a cluster of trees but it's there, i promise!

entrance is free, but there is a guard (who will unlock gates for you etc.) and it's nice to give him a bit of a tip, since it's probably his only source of income. muslims still come to pay their respects on fridays but, if you go on any other day, you're likely to get the place pretty much to yourself (well, bar the local kids anyways).

with respects to motorisation, you may be able to bike it (especially since i've gathered you have gone as far as the charminaar in the past!) but, failing that, i'd recommend the bus! bus 102 goes to the paigah tombs (stops outside apollo hospital) from women's college or nampally.

this is what the entrance looks like:

inside the complex:

and inside one of the tombs:

let us know what you think if you decide to go for it?
