Not sure where you got that information from. I was there early last year and found the place to be nice and charming. Plus it all depends on one's own likings and preferences. The views from Kailasagiri are magnificient and it's like being on top of the world! There are some nice beaches in the region, Rishikonda being the most beautiful. Also, a leisurely drive on India's longest beach road is quite a delight in itself. For solitude seekers, Thotlakonda is an interesting place with an Ancient Buddhist complex remains and some wonderful views of the sea. Not many know that it was from this region that Buddhism spread to Sri Lanka and various parts of South-East Asia. MISSING: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?
Please look at the thread and help find Jonathan. You might have seen him or have some valuable clues to his whereabouts.

MASTERSAM, sorry to oppose... yah, 'm strongly opposing!!!

Don't know how 'far' you got the feed back that made you think it 'boring' trip !!!

Vizag and Araku both have it's own special attractions....even if you are not interested with beautiful sea-beaches, there are hilly green destinations, if you are not interested with the temple-light house- submarine-vuda park- kailash giri sight seeing (submarine is a don't miss thing, I think), sink into the solitude of Yarda and Vimli beach....
Vizag to Araku rail-cum-road tour by APTDC is not only effective, it's very nice to enjoy. Staying in Araku means spending time in nature's lap. Though Bora caves lost it's charm now ( yes, I must say, the lighting and concrete walk-way with iron railing inside destroyed it's primitiveness, ancient natural looks
)...There is new spot now ... Padua, 33km from Araku and 52 Km from Koraput, heard of it and since then eyeing to it... don't know when can I manage to step there, but I must.

So MASTERSAM, have a 2nd thought.

please avoid arku in summer...............as i had suffered a lot in that place when visited in summer.it was dam hot and problem of water is more there.as of land in arku is mostly paddy agriculture its will be cutted in summer,so no scope for greenery.its a nice place to visit in rains or winter. this is what my opinion the rest depends on what you want.
Around Vizag and Araku
Hi guys !
I read this thread with a big interest. Next month I'll be first in Vizag and thought to go directly to Araku to enjoy the train trip (I read everywhere it's really wonderful !). But now I think it's better to stay at least one day there cause I'm very interested in Kalinga history and I'm sure I'll enjoy the places around Sankaram / Anakapalle, Thotlakonda, Pavuralakonda, Golapatnam (?). I have an accomodation in Vizag, but do you think it's possible to reach Anakapalle and the places around and only spend the whole day to do this, or do you think it's better to sleep in Anakapalle ? I assume there's also local transportations from Vizag ?
You also mentioned Padua. What is this place ?
Do you know if there are several trains reaching Araku ? I only found one on the early morning. So I don't know if it's better to reserve the ticket now from France or wait when I'll be in Vizag...
Do you have some other advices for me ?
My trip will certainly be : Vizag, Araku, Jeypore / Onkadelli, Jagdalpur / Bastar, Rayagada / Chatikona, Taptani / Jeerango. I don't really know when it's better to visit Koraput... Before Jeypore or on the way to Rayagada ?... I'll use the local transportations.
I'm waiting your advices
See you,
Fanny.

There is indeed only one daily train from Vizag to Araku as you can see here. When you click on the "AV" column you get information about the availability.
For the tribal part of Odisha there are restrictions nowadays. The most recent information is on this thread Hello Orissa experts! (Jorge Reverter?).
Several years ago we also visited this area. One year we did the day-trip to Araku with the tourist organization. Followed by a guided trip to Odisha. The details are in the February part of the Mumbai-Delhi journal in my signature.
Next year we went to Southern Chhattisgarh, details of this are in the January part of the Kochi-Delhi journal

Thank you for these informations vonkla !
I tried to reserve a e-ticket but it seems it's impossible to register on the website cause I have no indian phone
I'll read all these threads. I noticed that Jorge especially knows this part of India also.
I'll try this time not to post twice. I made a mistake and it seems there's no way to delete a post here... But I received a message from the moderator

I don't know if you have seen this thread, Solving problems with IRCTC/Cleartrip registration, it explains have you can register without a Indian phone. The first post of that long thread contains a link to the most recent situation.I think it is a good idea if you start a new thread of your own for the other questions concerning your trip. You can do this by selecting 'Forum' in the top bar and then choose the forum you want. In most case you find there a button 'new thread'.

Reason: Added info
Thank you so much, you're so helpful !
Actually, I wanted first to search on the forum if I could find the informations I need. But it seems people are very different from another traveller website I know... If I posted a thread there on informations they told about in several threads, I would have this kind of answers : "use the search button"
So I'll follow your advice and will post a new thread. It will be easier, especially because I'll travel in a few days

Hi Haidaloup, you are in a nice helpful travel site. Hope you'll get the help from the experts in time.
I was in Vizag-Araku-Jagdalpur long ago. So I'm trying to put something you may find useful.

Hi Duronto Jajabar, Hi Dave W !
Thanks a lot for your answers and for the thread. I'll certainly go to Anakapalle with the bus as you recommend. I can't resist to the place where I'll stay in Vizag, with a wonderful terrace giving an incredible view on the bay of Bengal
About the train ticket, after several days and emails, I finally had an account... but my bank blocks my french mastercard because of the wrong mobile number. I've decided to reserve through cleartrip, but I'm still waiting for a new OTP for the mobile ! Ah ah, we really need to be patient...
Have a nice day,
Fanny.

You convinced me to stay in Padua and not in Arakku. It seems it's possible to walk around and discover several tribal villages. And I like tis feeling : I can't find any informations about Malipahar/Balda in latin letters. So I'll stop my train trip in Arakku to look around then will reach Padua. I'll tell you my experience there ! Similar Threads
