Advice re visit to Ap in April please.
Hi
My daughter is working in AP on her "gap year" and we are planning a visit in April. Any advice? We wont have a great deal of time - 10- 12 days at the most so I expect the intinerary would look something like ... Hotel in Hyderabad for a couple of nights to recover from Heathrow and the flight out. Any tips re hotels in Hyderabad? Visit my daughter in Suryapet. Any tips re getting there from Hyderabad and maybe somewhere to stay when we get there? If we have a couple of spare nights any thoughts of somewhere memorable to go without spending too long getting there? i.e. reasonable travelling time from Suryapet / Hyderabad? |

I like Yatri Nivas in Hyderabad, although it's at the north end of the lake so it takes an extra 20 minutes or half hour to get to the tourist sites like Charminar and the old city.
I'd take the overnight train to Hampi for a good 3 day trip from Hyderabad. Suryapet is further east so perhaps a train to Vizag and the Araku Valley if you're departing from there? |

From what I recall Suryapet is not a very interesting place at all. But you may want to visit Pochampalli which is on the way there, which is a centre for Ikat weaving. And, I know that as the crow flies it is not very far from Amaravati, which has some very interesting Buddhist ruins and where APTDC is developing tourist inftastructure - but I don't know how easy it is to cross the Krishna River to get to it, I believe there is a primitive car ferry but not sure. The road from Suryapet to Khammam is quite scenic, and there is an interesting temple on the rock in the middle of Khammam.
So your best bet might be to rent a car with a driver in Hyderabad to see all these places while staying in Suryapet. No idea about lodging in Suryapet, you might be more successful in Khammam? Oh and you can probably do Warangal as a day trip from Suryapet, a few wonderful examples of Kakatiya architecture there. Last edited by Rasika : Jan 19th, 2009 at 04:25. suryapet is about 130 kms from hyderabad and it has no train facility.
You can visit many places in hyderabad for a week of minimum . If are going to stay near suryapet you can visit some places at khammam which is 60 km distant from suryapet. I can give you more details if you specify your choice. |
