Thumbs up Which Islands to visit

I am hoping to visit the Andaman islands in Feb 08 and am just wondering if anyone has any advice on which islands allow foreign tourists. Some suggestions on which islands are easily accessible from Port B. I will be there for three weeks. Most info seems to be about Havelock I would appreciate some info on other islands.

Thank you in advance

I spent a few weeks on Niel Island, that was back in 1999 but I doubt if it's changed much. There's a government hotel near the beach, but if you enquire amongst the locals, you can find accomodation elsewhere. You can hire snorkeling equipment at the hotel, the water is really calm oppst. (like a swimming pool), and there are loads of multicoloured fish to see. In fact, snorkeling at Niel (Neal?) was one of the best things I have ever done in India. If there's nobody else on the island, book into the hotel's dorm - you'll have it to yourself and it will just be like your own personal huge room - but you'll save money. Don't queue for the boat tickets at PB (complicated) - just jump on the boat you need. The ticket inspector will charge extra on the boat - but it's all dirt cheap and friendly. There's no grog for sale on most of the little islands, so take a bottle if you think you might get in that mood.

Like I say - this is all late 20th century info (alas) but I think the pace of so-called progress is slow on the islands, so things are probably the same. I found North Andaman really too wild and remote. The government hotel was in a really stupid place, and we got more-or-less stranded. Some dudes go to NA and go camping on tiny deserted islands just off the coast (they cut a deal with local villagers to get them there & feed them). But that's pretty hard-core, I've never done it, I don't know if it should be recommended - sounds great though.

Hi! See the Andaman thread in my signature.

Havelock, Neil, Long and Little Andaman are all open to tourists - there are also a few more sattered around which are 'iffy'. Have a great trip!

Yep,There are burmese illegal squatter on these islands and usually are extremely violent to anyone who spots them out of a fear they will be reported to the indian authorities.
