Hi Joanna...I was in Port Blair and Havelock Island in March 2009. There are hotels in every price range.
The luxury ones come for 60 pounds per night inclusive of taxes and the budget hotels come for 20-25 pounds per night. It is not too expensive. Since you plan to stay for 3 weeks I would suggest you stay in the budget ones. Island Vinnie Cabana on Havelock Island is a very good option. The people there are really nice. ![]() Cheers, Harsha |

Hi Joanna,
when i was in havelock islands,i stayed in Dolphin resorts. My plan was to book accomdation in wildorchid resort but it was full at that time. Dolphin resort is run by goverment so it is cheap(around 15 pounds) and though it is not a great place to stay,it is okay to stay there.but there is one problem that they dont have room service. I would suggest Wildorchid and Bare Foot resorts in havelock islands Thanks, Vijay |

Hi JoannaRiki,
1. You do not say where in Andamans you want to stay. 2. You do not say what standard of accommodation you are looking for. I think it would be easier to advice you more correctly if you would gice information on the questions above. On Havelock (where most tourists stay) you can get a room from around Rs.100 (cheap a-frame hut) to Rs. 12000 (luxurious bungalow at the best beach). And everything in the middle :-). |

If staying in season, say Jan. or Feb., is it easy to get into the 100 R range huts or is it luck of the draw? THANX

You could extend the 30 day permit with another 15 days before the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. After that insident the permit regulations changes.
Now you get 15 days if you do not have a return ticket and another 15 days can be extended in Port Blair (there has been talks about that Havelock will get an officer with high enough rank to do it - but has not happened so far) which give a total of 30 days. If you are in Havelock and need to do this the best is to do the extention on a Friday, as it is the only day when you are able to leave in the morning and be back in the evening. If you already have a return ticket you can get a 30 day permit straight away. You can currently not as a tourist stay longer than 30 days before you have to leave. Hopefully it will go back to the old system at some point. There is much more general information in the FAQ for Andaman Islands here: http://www.diveandamans.com/moreinfo/faqs |

Thanks alot, I was under the impression that 30 days was the max. Too bad, I got all excited when you said there were people hanging out for 6 weeks. Oh well, 30 days in paridise is better then none I guess. Are the very basic cabins avaliable on other islands as well? I figuer I might have a better shot on a less busy island.

Havelock Island is divine!
Can highly recommend Barefoot: www.barefootindia.com Very beautiful rooms and lots of excursions besides the usually diving facilities. Also suggest you check out: www.andaman.org Enjoy! ![]() |
