My personal choice would be Mission Beach, Australia (however, I could be mistaken about the name, it was about half a day drive south of Cairns.)

Ko Phi Phi, (the beach on the north side of the north Island) at sunrise, before the tourists get up, is absolutely gorgeous.

hi IainC and svdmade nice hearing from you,
i coudn't decide if i prefer phra nang beach some 14 jears ago (don' know how it looks today) or a beach on a tiny fidji island on the east coast of viti levu that i just know as mystery island (don't think it's the real name). IainC are you the one who traveled by bike around australia in '91? would love hearing from more beautiful stretches of sand around the world. please post! ![]() |

Beaches rock!!
In Asia.... the most beautiful one I've sunbathed on was the one that you have to walk to from Raileh Beach (can't remember the name but there's the Princess Lagoon on the way and the cave at the end of the beach with the lingams) but there are some beautiful beaches I visited briefly in the Surin and Similan Islands too. In the Americas I think Tulum in Mexico was beautiful.... Mayan ruins right on the coast and the whitest, finest sand ever.... had a bungalow right on the beach with a sand floor and hammocks and cheap margaritas. In the Middle East, it has to be Olympos in Turkey for me.... this one's a pebbly beach but the setting is amazing... a few ruins just like Tulum, an eternal flame, a spot of fishing, and good memories of friendships and a bit of romance. And then there are all the lovely beaches at home in New Zealand... there are so many amazing beaches there it's hard to pick just one so I'll just say my favourite close one to Auckland: Karekare, just 45 minutes from central Auckland on the rugged West Coast... black sand, native trees and bush, and big surf to play in. Just got back from Auckland yesterday and I didn't make it out to Karekare but I did get to Whatipu which is the next beach south... same, same but different. Worst beaches: the crowded one I had to pay to get on in Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast; Pattaya in Thailand for the sleaze factor and it was dirty. |

Your beaches sound good maree. Not too far away in South Australia dreamingwombat and I have been discovering the beaches here.
I wouldn't say they are the best in the world but most are pretty good with safe swimming, good surf when conditions are right, good fishing and they are clean. Our favourite is Port Willunga beach near where we live pictured below. Would love to go to Cox's Bazaar and agree that Varkala in Kerala is good too but the swimming there is treacherous. There have been many warnings on this website. Anyway, here's "our" beach... |

The beaches Ive seen in thailand are ofcourse more beautiful than anything India has to offer beachwise (than again I LOVE Gokarna/Karnataka although water is not amazing).
But then I heard of PARADICE yeah, Andaman Islands.... And Ive met people who sait IT was the SHIT! Too bad its still a bit hard or expencive getting there and there is one Island there that is called Snake Island so Beware.... ![]() The Pic Im posting is taken by my friend. And its taken on Ohm Beach in Gokarna. Ohm Namah Shivaya!
