Suggestion required for honeymoon @ Andaman in July 2012
Hi,
I'm planning for my honeymoon in this July for 7 day and 6 nights at Andaman; I have talked with my travel agent and he suggests me following itinerary for the tour:
Day 01: Arrival Port Blair airport and transfer to Hotel
Corbyn”s cove sea beach, Gandhi Park, Marina Park.
Sound & Light show at Cellular Jail
Day 02: North Bay coral Island
Ross Island (Historical place)
Seven point harbour cruise & Viper Island
Day 03: Neil Island (Overnight stay at Neil Island)
Day 04: Havelock Island via Radhanagar Sea Beach
(Overnight stay at Havelock Island)
Day 05: Back to Port Blair (Overnight stay at Port Blair)
Day 06: Port Blair to Baratang via Mud volcano, Lime stone Cave & Jarawa reserve forest.
Day 07: Departure from Port Blair.
As I've never visited this palce before, any suggestion from you guys would be a great help.

First of all "July" at all is not a good month to visit Andamans.....
Secondly why travel agent? Go by yourself, book govt. hotels in all the places & you are done.
And your plan is ok for this short time span. But i would like to spend more time in Neil & Havelock.

Not advisable
I visited Port blair from 9th Feb to 16th Feb. The moment i landed their i felt like taking my shirt off immediately. I cant even imagine how would it be going there in june- july. certainly wont be all hunky dory. The climate has changed since the tsunami in 2004.
There will only be positive side. since it will be off season the rooms may be cheaper. You may be probably better going off to Some hill station at that time.

The Andaman Islands are beautiful and when I was there in November for a month there were certainly a lot of honeymooning couples.
What I would consider is that that is a lot of activity you are planning in just 7 days, and the heat is going to be intense! Neil Island is the quietest of all the tourist islands and Havelock being the main Island. You may consider staying on Havelock and then taking day trips out by boat to other places. It gives you the option to just chill out if you need to. There are a lot of things to do on Havelock, jungle walking to Elephant Beach or Snorkling and Diving for the day. ( my son who is 10 did a discover diving day and loved it )) The beaches are gorgeous and you can hire a scooter to go further afield for 200 roupees a day!
Port Blair does not really have that much to offer except the jail, athough i enjoyed the feel of Port Blair I did not stay there. You can fly into Port Blair and then get a boat for about 250 roupees to havelock island which will take you about 3 hours to get there. ( The thought of white sands and seas were more appealing than the jail
) Oh and Corbyn Beach is not very scenic as it has the major traffic from the ships passing and the sea is not so nice.
I think you will pay twice as much for an organised trip than you will for doing it yourself. If you want a little luxury then beach 3 offers some beautiful beach huts and resorts.
Good luck with your honeymoon and let me know if i can tell you anything else.

In July it would rain quite heavily. Also if you want sea go with Havelock, Port Blair is not a beach destination.
July is an off season and will be raining in Andamans (Romantic indeed
).
Baratang route through dense Jarawa forest has been closed sometime back(Please check and plan accordingly)

I visited Andaman during January, 2011 (My first Honeymoon). My plan is almost same as yours except for the baratang trip. My itenary was as below -
Day 1 - Reached Port Blair and rest at hotel.
Day 2 - Start for Havelock island. Hired a bike and went to Kala Pathhar beach (not many people go to this place). I liked it very much.
Day 3 - To Radhanagar beach and was there full day. Amazing experience I would say.
Day 4 – Went to Elephenta beach and experienced the underwater life there. Journey to Elephenta was little scary as the sea is very rough here. Afternoon, checked out from Havelock hotel and heading towards Neil Island in a Govt ferry.
Day 5 - Hired a bike and roam around and visited Sitapur sea beach. Amazing again. Visited the other 2 sea beaches in Neil Island as well.
Day 6 - Back to Port Blair. Saw the light and shadow show in cellular jail.(Must watch)
Day 7 - Sightseeing in and around Port Blair. Corbin’s cove beach. There is a sea beach near the zoo in Port Blair but I am not able to recollect the name. That beach was awesome.
Day 8 - Visit to Mount Heriat peack. Highest peak in Andaman. I did not like this visit at all. Please avoid this.
Day 9 - 3 island tour. Viper, Ross and North Bay island. Experiencing the underwater life at North Bay was amazing.
Day 10 - To Port Blair airport and heading towards home.
I would say – there is no comparison to the white sand clean beaches of Andaman.
I really enjoyed my stay at Andaman. I did not approach any travel agents. Booked all the tickets and hotels on my own and end of the tour I felt that the agent was charging me double the amount I actually spent.
Port Blair Hotel - Hotel Megapode (amazing view of the sea from the balcony)
Havelock Hotel - Hotel Kingdom (Good clean hotel but no sea view)
Neil Hotel - A hut type cottage at Pearl resort at lakhsmannpur beach. The best place I have ever stayed.
Hope this information will help you.
Regards,
Avi

Hi Avi,
Thanks a ton for your detail reply. Andaman with the white sand pristine sea beaches is always in my hit list. I'll try to visit there once. But can you tell me what was your total cost including everything? Have you gone to see the jaroa's ?

The Jarawas do not need any tourist visits.

I agree..These days the poor animals are also getting disturbed a lot by the overcurious tourists in many forest safaries

Hi Atanu,I have not gone to visit the Jaroas. I am little bit uncomfortable seeing tribal communities.
My total cost came around - 40k for 2 adults including return air fare from Bangalore-Chennai-Port Blair.

Avi
