Need info : Hut bay - Little Andamans

Hello,

I couldn't visit little Andamans last time I was there (Aug 06). Has anybody been there offlate? I need to know these:

- Weather in March / April
- Ferry schedule from Port Blair to Hut bay
- Any places to stay there? any recommendations?
- What about GSM mobile coverage? (BSNL / AirTel)

Thanks everyone,

Kshastry

Hello, have you been already?

If not, I was in Little andaman for a week or so in early february... It has the best value accomodation in the whole of the andaman islands!

About 1 km from the jetty there are 2 guesthouses very near eachother

Sea Land guest house + Eco Friendly guest house

I was single there and payed 100rs per day in Sea Land. It is a very comfortable bed (thick matress) with an attached shower + toilet. Toilet is very powerful, but I dont think its hot. In sea land if you want TV it is 50rs extra per day. You can trust the manager there. Sea land has about 24 rooms and is a big concrete building, you cant miss it..... eco guest house is 200 metres down the road, and looks lovely + had good reviews from people i spoke to who used it (its 50% more expensive)

They may have changed it but in jan and feb you could get a ferry that takes 6 hours during in the morning leaving at 7am (reaches hut bay at 12pm)

On return to port blair I got a night ferry which took about 10-11 hours but I dont remember, it arrived at 6 30am. Its much slower.

I lost my mobile in port blair the day I arrived. One evening when I was camping at butlers bay (that was where I lived ) an indian guy, the doctor in the hospital at the town just up the road from it (there is also another "hospital" in hut bay) came by and he offered and encouraged to phone my mum and dad from his mobile. I say tried because you do get a signal at some points on little andaman, but butlers bay had no signal that night when we tried

You can also hitch a lift from one of the many jeeps on the island for only 10rupees! (20 if you're going more than 10 or so km) if the driver asks for more he is trying his luck. The locals all pay 10 and there is no "tourist price"!

these were all taken in little andaman... where the land meets the sea it looks like this on 90% of the island (its much nicer than these rubbish pictures make out)

Hi Scotsman, thanks for your reply. I wasn't so lucky, I had to skip Little Andamans this time too. I visited Neil, Havelock and Diglipur. (I have posted a trip report about it in this forum). I will try visiting Hut Bay next time and would remember your this post.

Sorry to know about your mobile loss. Pics were nice!
